I just realized I've yet to actually try an ATK bass, think I will next time I'm at GC.
i removed it. i think the sunburst looks better with out the pickguard; the jaco-ish type look.(sort of)

Now's a good time to try one; I just picked up GC's ATK 300 equivalent (ATK3EX1) this past weekend for $299.99; they price matched the current MF sale on ATKs. Wasn't really in the market for another bass (although I had played this bass some months back and placed it on my future wish list), but at the price, I couldn't let it pass. Traded in an old Washburn acoustic guitar I had, and I walked out the door with it for $125.00 out of pocket.
Did have to explain it to the wife, though...

According to his profile, Awkwardturtle! has an Ibanez GSR190.
I own a 1992 Ibanez Soundgear 5-String with a Padauk top. I ordered this bass new & it still sounds great after 18 years. Oh yeah, and dig the DiMarzio Ocelot strap.

To add more info on my bass, my model is an SR885. From the 1992 Ibanez catalogue, it spans 2 pages.

These pages are pretty much etched into my memory. At the time of my purchase (1992), my local music store did not sell Ibanez. The order of 1 unit was placed for me. I cannot recall exactly but think I paid extra for the padauk finish. While waiting for it to arrive, the store gave me the catalog to look at while waiting for my order.
Hey, what are your thoughts about the 300? I have been looking at getting one for myself for awhile!!!
its a really versatile bass, and you could get almost any sound out of it. the neck is wide as a p bass, but i think isnt as thick as one, so its really comfortable.
one thing that it can't do that well is getting that upright-ish tone that you would get with a neck pick-up
if playing rock or funk- great bass.
I'm in a rock band but study jazz bass. Would you recommend that I keep looking? I like trying to get good mids-highs when playing jazz.
