That's good to read. I've owned the first model from the nineties. That was pretty heavy and big. I now have the ATK 400. Which struck me as much lighter and somewhat smaller than the bass I remembered. Research learned that the 400 series from the beginning of the 21 century indeed is lighter than it's predecessor and has a slightly smaller body.
Love to try the 805!
Yesterday I found myself a long sought of Ibanez Roadstar 840 BK. The quite rare fretless version of the Ibanez Roadstar 824 I have.
What an instrument! It's completely original and after 33 years the fingerboard still is impeccable!
Just needs some TLC in the hygienic dept. And some new tonepots.

Awesome! Good score. I've been on the lookout for one of those (or the 940) for months now. They just don't show up very often. Maybe they're all in Europe.
I have been a great lover of the BTB 5 string bass for several years. Especially the 1999 through 2004ish versions back when none of them were dumbed down cheaper versions. I never thought I would dig on a six string until I got a prestige sound gear. I am interested in getting some older versions of the prestige 6 sound gear. Can anyone tell me how the serial numbers can be read to make sure it's a prestige. Maiming because it would be eBay that I would be buying from. Thanks

Wow. That is beautiful. I have 2 924s one earlier model with the quadra lock and one with the chrome plate.
I have toyed with the thought of making one a fretless but can't bring myself to do it. So I've been looking for that fretless bass too. Looks beautiful. If you ever want to swap a fretted for a fretless roadster neck just let me know.
It was the first bass I I ever purchased. Those old roadsters are wonderful. Relatively heavy and solid. Powerful
Pickups. Very solid Precision style neck. At least mine are. Nothing like the new SR necks. I have a 370F so I like them too. But will always have a soft spot for these old

I play Ibanez destroyers. I just bought the reissue candy apple red one, it is supposed to be here Tuesday. I outfit them with DiMarzio pickuos usually so they go grrrrrrr!

Thanks all! This model for me is the classic Ibanez bass design; The Roadster, the Studio and the early Musicians. All share the same bodyshape and 2-2 headstock.
I see it as the one good answer to classics as the p and j bass. And it's Ibanez's answer!
Build quality is sublime, used woods are awesome, electronic design well thought through and the pick-ups are amongst the best!

I bought this bass from this guy on craigslist 3 years ago..a 1986 pearl black roadstar 2 rb 850..with its original case..active 2 hb..thinner than a regular bass..lighter also..didn't even try it then..i was more into passives..just kept it..found this forum..got it out and tried it..i was blown away..such a beautiful voice on such a flimsy guitar!!...now that I have really looked at it..all is original..even the pup stickers were on it..the v shaped strap buttons..the non working tone pot..even the 9 v battery..

They re-issued the Destroyer? I didn't see anything on their site about it, but the old ones with Dimarzios definitely ROARED
Is that a Blazer? I know Ibanez made more than a few P-bass styled basses with a few different model names, but that one is really snazzy.
It's a Roadstar2 from 1986. I bought it in a really poor condition. Except for the neck, which was fine but for the frets.
So I restored the body and spray painted it metallic blue instead of the original black.
Here is a picture of the sisters.
I would like to replace the knobs on one with originals or at least gold speed knobs. It also has replacement sealed Grover style tuners replacing the heart tuners typical of the roadsters. They are labeled Ibanez but is like to get the hearts on it. And someone removed the rubber grommet/spacer on the PU selector and changed the control orientation. What was Vol Tone Bass Treble got changed to Vol Treb Tone Bass. So ill need to pull the pots and carefully put them in their correct place.

Well thanks. That does save money. Have you seen how much the sure grips go for used? 10-35 each.
As much as the open back heart tuners are original and classic. The closed tuners someone replaced them with are actually smoother. I think that the musician series used them.
They both play great. Different but great. One has more of a C shaped neck and the other is a more flattened D. I'd love to have one fretless but as I said, can't get myself to pull the frets off one.
