Thanks. Since I posted that I was able to actually play one of those basses and was surprised to find that it's actually that little neck pickup that is making the huge fat sound I was hearing.

You're not the only one that remembers them that way. I remember as a teenager playing a brand new one at Keen Kraft in Calgary. I remember being impressed.

I've got me a 302 Guild. All mahogany like an EB bass but very potent single coils like a hot jazz bass. And interesting pickup locations. It can bite like a Ric, play punchy like a P-bass, or sit big and warm in a blues setting. Very versatile, but not the least bit Ibby-ish.

SR505SM. Nice and light, breeze to play and dig the tones. I had a SR505 about 6 years ago. I was itching to get another but was looking around for one with a different top.

Spalted maple with a nice bit of flame in it too.

I'm in. SR756, now strung with TI flats. I adjusted the action as low as possible without buzz, then had to raise it because it was too low, lol. 6 months in and lovin' it!

Thanks. Actually, I have a 700 and a 755 (but no 705), but I'm hangin on to the 755 since it's the only 5 I have.

Just got this one.

To be clear my favorite color is...well...orange.

So when I found an Orange Sparkle SR305 I had to put neon Orange strings on it and well...here it is.

It's obnoxiousness is complete.

I absolutely love the tone. I would prefer a thinner neck, but that isn't a deal breaker for me. The sound is the most important thing.

Yesterday I found myself a long sought of Ibanez Roadstar 840 BK. The quite rare fretless version of the Ibanez Roadstar 824 I have.
What an instrument! It's completely original and after 33 years the fingerboard still is impeccable!
Just needs some TLC in the hygienic dept. And some new tonepots.

I haven't played other ATKs but this one is seems pretty light to me. It's not as light as an SR but not far off and it I would never describe it as heavy. It also has beautiful balance so it's comfortable on the shoulder.
