I have a SRX705 loaded with EMG 40DCs back at my parent's palce that I don't play anymore since I switched to passive fender style four strings. Ridiculous value for the price. This was the first "good bass" I ever bought. I still remember the reactions I got when I pulled it of it's case when I was still in high-school.

This bass has been my main bass for around 10 years and played anything from drop tuned metal to funky pop and latin music, finger style, pick style, slap and it always delivered.

Somebody mentioned the rather temperamental character of the mids on an SRX700. I never felt like that. Since installing the EMGs the bass's response became a lot more even. The only issue was that the preamp operated very strangely. Both the treble and bass controls became overwhelming. I always wanted to switch to an EMG preamp but never got around to.

I actually pulled it out of the case when I was home around christmas, cleaned it up, set it up and went for a jamming session and man it sounded massive, for that heavy stoney metal vibe. It really sucks they stopped making those.

IIRC, SRX necks are 42 mm at the nut, and SR necks are 38 mm at the nut. I always wanted an SRX because of the humbuckers; too bad Ibanez never made them for us lefties in the US. I sometimes think about getting an SR 300L and putting SRX pickups in it....

I don't know if this applies to your problem or not, but it happened to me and is worth noting for others. Ibanez basses come with Elixir strings which are a coated string. So, you're not grounding the bass when you touch the strings like you are with non-coated strings. I spent some time trying to solve a ground problem only to discover this was the problem.

In my case, I didn't hear a hum, but every time my fingers touched one of the pole pieces on the pickups I'd hear a crackling noise as it grounded and then ungrounded when I wasn't touching any more. I solved this by putting a piece of clear tape over all the pole pieces. This was how the bass had come from the factory and the problem only began when I removed the plastic.

I changed my preamp out with a Mike Pope, don't regret it at all.
also put in Nordstrands Fat Stacks with coil tap and active/passive so in essence I have a SR1205/1405. With the Mike Pope preamp being able to adjust lo and hi mids makes a huge difference!

Just ordered an SR805. Leap of Faith as I've never put my hands on one before. Should be here in two days or so. I'll be sure to post some pics and a review after I get it in my hot little hands. I ordered it through CG while in the store. Many of the folks there want me to bring it once it arrives as they've never seen one before either. The next 48 hours will offer me very little sleep.

Yup, I'm an Ibanez girl myself! And hubby plays Ibanez as well. He doesn't want me to give up my 4 string b/c it's the same color as his Saber and we're both in the same band. He like that we match...LOL!

Hey I'm new here and wonder if I can have a number? I'm a longtime Ibanez player, owner/collector.

Currently have:
SR 1200 Anniversary Model
SR 900
SR 655PB
BTB 1300 and another BTB somewhere.
