I'm diggin' my Artcore right now. It's perfect for BEAD, and my main player. Not to mention, it's the only burst painted singlecut I've ever seen.

That artcore is really sweet looking, I've wanted to try one of those for a while now.

I just picked up a BTBT406QM from a fellow TB'er and I have to say that I am SERIOUSLY impressed. I've had other Ibby basses over the years, a pre-soundgear 4 stringer and a GSR200 which I always felt were awesome basses (on a budget). I had NO IDEA that I could get an "off-the-shelf" Ibanez that really played well and was very well built. I bought the 406 as a budget 6 string (being that it was used) and I am realizing that this is no budget instrument. Mind you it IS missing the Barts that the newer ones have, but if I desire I am sure that I can come up with $200 to remedy that!

I am looking for a set of replacement strings (I'm new to 6'ers) so if anyone has a recommendation I'd be much obliged. I am planning to get the Will Lee sigs from Dean Markley any thoughts? FWIW I play mostly R&B and older funk and DESPISE coated strings.

Lets see some more Ibby LOVE! I'll post some pics soon!

1979 Blazer, Note the Fender style headstock on this badboy and the single coil type Pbass pickup,, Vintage Ibanez baby!!! Massive round tone!

Pardon the hair! This pic is about two years old now, but it's me with my main bass, an Ibanez SR506. I markered on that black stripe to cover up popping damage cuz the finish is so light, but now the bass is sporting more wear.

Dooooode they just keep falling into my lap for rediculousely cheap money for great Japanese basses.. I have a hard time passing them up,, Right now late 70's early/mid 80's Ibanez's are going cheap (even on ebay) and they are superior to MIM Fenders or any of the other mass produced Korean basses out there today.. I can't get enough of them... I have 7 vintage Ibby's right now, I'll post a pic when I get them all together, The RB690 is on it's way to Hambone for a complete fretless makeover.... Yeah baby....

The black stripe acatually looks awesome. Very idiosyncratic.

The SR is for people who like tighter string spacing and a smaller neck, while the BTB is the polar opposite.

Personally, I prefer the BTB for the aforementioned reasons.

My humble SR900... neck thru...bart pick up and preamp.. does the job well VERY solid... nice trademark bartolini sound... no complaints...

I think the 300's were Korean made, and the 500's were Japanese. There was also a line that was made in the United States that look incredible. Recently, on the 'Bay, there was a Koa ATK500 that sold for under $500... it was stunning. I believe the pictures are a couple of pages back in this thread. Check'em out and cry like I did ^_^

I have made it up to page 8 and read the discussion of the USA ATK and the Koa ATK so I thought I would at my two cents worth since I have both models. You will note that the USA ATK, the red one , has a PBC Tension Free neck. Here is a quote which I received from the dealer, Chris Guitars, "Ibanez USA ATK 4 Bass, (pic2), very rare USA model built by Dave Bunker of PBC (boutique builder in Pennsylvania) fame and a quality, pro-line bass at a bargain price. Here's a quote from the Jemsite, 'I started building the Ibanez USRG-10-20 and 30 in 1993 and in 1994 started building the ATK Bass line. These several thousand Ibanez were built in Coopersburg, PA by PBC Guitar technology which was my company at the time. All of these instruments featured our special Tension Free neck and other than the electronics and hardware were built to finish by PBC.'" The other has a koa top. I have several other Ibanez basses (and guitars) which I will eventually post. Walfy

Not mine but I played it today and it was the nicest bass ive ever played (i havent played many high end basses though). Completely effortless, my hand melted into the neck.

Absolute gold! Now Ive got major, major GAS. (and i just pulled the trigger on a new rig!!....damn GAS!)

I would love to try a US ATK. Maybe I'll get lucky and see one pop-up on Ebay some day. They look like fabulous instruments. The koa ATK nearly made me fall over when I first saw it.

i could use one of the soapbar models too, but i think i have blown the bass budget for this quarter (unless i see something i really really really really want...hehe)

ok, i really really really really REALLY wanted it, and i'm glad i bought it...mahogany+wingy bubingy+barts = WOW

my new (used) SR500 (cort/korea, 2004), almost like new except for a little oxidation/corrosion on the bridge (gonna see what i can do about that right now) and the one mismatched knob:

i'm done buying basses, I SWEAR IT

p.s. i got something else today too, but it's not an ibby, so we can't mention it...


edit: all fixed up...i swapped strings with the SRX400 (so now the SR500 has the d'addario SL chrome flats, remind me to buy some more of those), hit the bridge, knobs and tuner keys with a scotchbrite pad (now they have a nice sorta brushed finish, looks sweet), restrung it PROPERLY (the D and G were wound backwards, see above pic) and stole the truss rod cover off the SRX400 to boot (it was missing), lowered the action a tad and slapped in a fresh battery...now it is near perfect cosmetically, plays like butta and sounds like a beast...not too bad for a combination pawn shop/ebay bass (came with a case too)...
