just one more question for the ibbygurus...how does one date an SR800? the serial numbers of the ones i have seen at start with F10, F15, F20 etc...i know what the F is for thanks to the register, but the digits don't make much sense...

I thought the register made perfect sense. Mine dated back to '94, in the F factory (too lazy to try and spell it)

I read this on the 'Ibanez Rules' site concerning Ibanez numbers from the Cort factory:
Cort Serial Numbers - Cort serial numbers are denoted with a C prefix followed by either 7 or 8 digits. I'm not sure what year the changeover occurred but using the formula it will be easy for you to tell. A 7 digit number example - C5030567 - translates, 5 = 1995, 03 = 3rd month [March], 0567 = 567th guitar built in March 1995. An 8 digit number example - C03114373 - translates, 03 = 2003, 11 = 11th month [November], 4373 = 4373rd guitar built in November 2003.

The problem I have is my ATK has a C prefix, followed by 6 digits, not 7 or 8. The first 2 digits are '43', so I assume mine is a March 1994 instrument.

please prepare for picture bombardment...

the mailman brought me a present today, my nipponese black beauty (circa 1991, thanks Minger!) ebay SR 800...i almost feel guilty about what i paid for this thing ($6 in loose change and a handful of peanuts...well, almost)...it needs some flatwounds and some decent metal knobs, but i'm pretty impressed...weird that you can't adjust the saddles individually (i found that out before i bought it, thanks to TB and the almighty search feature), but it doesn't look to be a problem...here she is:

here's my ebay SR400, which is my favo(U)rite thus far...a nice older cort model (korea, 1997...thanks danomite!) with the 3 band EQ and a new set of d'addario super light chrome flats...sounds dynamite and plays so easy you can fret a note by blowing on the board...i am sold on the P/J combo, from fart to whump and everything in between...it's right purty too, i think...

and last but not least, my SRX400 (indonesia, 2005)...i bought this one new from the american musical blowout...this is the heaviest one oddly enough, has some crazy tone also...it also has a new set of the SL chrome flats on it, and i painted the butt ugly pickguard using some spray-on duplicolor vinyl/fabric dye...good stuff...the humbucker is a bad motherf***SHUT YO MOUTH*** (i'm just talkin bout pups), has that kinda stingrayish sound without being quite so obnoxious...the slap tone on this one is just unreal, think grand piano with a coked up angry monkey trapped inside...

i guess this makes me an ibanez fanboy (not to mention an ebay addict)...ah well, so be it...if everybody liked them we would have to pay twice as much...

indeed...i would really like to hear one of the nicer models with the two humbuckies, that bad boy up by the neck must be insane...i could use one of the soapbar models too, but i think i have blown the bass budget for this quarter (unless i see something i really really really really want...hehe)

my SRX400 has some good sustain, really sings too...those indonesian kids do a nice job...only thing i would (might) change is that the tone control isn't actually a tone control so much as a "boost everything" knob...and all three of the above have Invalid Link Removed, but it doesn't seem to be hurting them any...

now i should probably go look for bulk packs of the 9V energizers

A while back, I got my hands on an SR505 and fell in love with it! (Thanks T - I'm still keeping that promise.) Loved the feel, loved the playability, loved the neck.

The only problem is that it was a 1996 model with the Ibanez DX pickups -- which are actually re-badged Mighty Mites. They had a nice sound but the output was very low. I'd considered upgrading them to Bartolinis but after looking at the cost, I made a different move ...

Today, I traded my 1996 SR505 for a 2006 SR505 -- what a sweet bass!!!

Like all newer 505's, it has the Bart MK-1's and the Bart preamp. What a difference! It has that trademark warm Bart tone and the output is BIG. It still has the slender Ibanez neck, the size/weight is "just right," and the workmanship is excellent.

My TB buddies know that I'm not one for spending huge bucks ($1K +) on basses. I am convinced that the Ibby SR505 is one of the nicest basses out there at it's price point -- you could do a lot worse than to take one of these babies home!

That SRX 400 looks great. If they had done that at the factory they would have sold more.

thank you, i like it too (i would like it even more routed from the back without any stupid pickguard, but what can ya do?)

Awesome news! I want one of those basses but you just don't see them around here much. It's mostly an SRX town. Mahoganey body, right? Very sweet!
