Duke, the drill is awesome!!

How'd you do it?
You've become the master of getting great bass tones out of high gain amps. Your sound has really evolved into something much cooler than a "real" amp.

I'm at that spot myself. My real amp doesn't sound as good as my tone in Jamup. I'm spoiled. And I'm still using the Irig!!

I did see this drill thing when Adrian Bellew of King Crimson made thus trick, but on a guitar.

So, I took my little 10.8V Bosch drill and did it.
I did rev up and down the drill while moving it towards the bridge pup on my Ric. Moving it towards the pup and away from the pup while regulating the RPM give the sound of something approaching, coming by and moving away. The reverse reverb and the rotary pedal just increased the drill effect. Btw I've used the Marshall JCM.

I'm always been inspired by the British 70's rock bass players. They lacked power and overdrive so they used guitar amps. In addition, as we know Amplitube and Ampkit didn't offer us many bass amps, so getting fed up by the Ampeg bass amp on Amplitube and the Fender Bassman on Ampkit, I started trying out the guitar heads mixed with various cabs and mics. I've found out that it was possible to obtain a decent tone out of them. But it was not until the recent Jamup update and the Apogee Jam when I really stated to get nice results!

Out of all the guitar head I always find the Marshalls to fit best for my bass tone. Also the Fergan's which I'm actually knows nothing about. Never seen one or heard of somebody which uses them.

Yeah, that's right. I slipped over to Duke's side of the tone spectrum. High-gain heaven!!
Here's the BDDI settings:

The Noise Filter is on, but I set it to where it just stops the hiss when I'm not playing.

This would work really well in a band with one guitar, kick it in during the guitar solo to add a little beef to the rhythm section. I've got another identical preset without the BDDI so I can switch it in and out when needed. I've found that its easier to switch tones if you set up presets for everything, rather than try to slide pedals into the chain on the fly.

This speaks volumes. Every time I fire up Jamup, I get inspired. Knowing that we actually have a voice and people working their asses off to make our music possible, makes me want to create.

A noise gate dose the same thing but has a "gate" that opens up for the entire frequency range when a loud signal is introduced that can be set to open at a specific sensitivity and usually a release sensitivity which closes the "gate" which can also be given a sensitivity to close the "gate" quickly or slowly on the hiss and noise frequencies when the loud signal gets quieter

OK. I think I will need the noise filter then. I've used the noise gate, and it does cut the hiss when I'm not hitting a note. But, as soon as I hit a note, I also hear hiss in the sound. I suppose I could do roughly the same hiss reduction by using eq to drop out higher freqs.

That's what I used to do in AT when I used the iRig. I used the 6 band eq not the noise filter and took the 6k slider almost all the way down since bass guitar frequencies are between 40Hz and 4kHz it did a great job unlike the noise filter that cut most of the "tone" even at the lowest setting.
Since going 30 pin noise and hiss are not an issue.

I saw Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan do their thing with electric drills from the front row back in the day.

They did it a bit different though, they actually attached multiple picks to it so they could take advantage of the high RPMs and play faster.

It was AWESOME.

I've got to try that on my Ric today before I change strings, maybe a Dremel is even better due to super high RPM!! :)

Given the built-in mid scoop in the G-K with the controls at noon, that's a ton of bass boost. Are you compensating for a bass with a lack of low end, or cheap headphones?

If I ran that on stage with any of my basses, it would be a wall of mud!
