The Kramer Club

Question for the kramer aluminum fans-

ever seen a duke case or any aluminum case like this? its brown tweed when my other aluminums have cream tolex.

also my duke seems to have never had any "grip" material at the leg area. was i wrong to assume all did?

speaking of lefty Kramer... A 700ST found it's way into my house last week.
.

Nice, but the headstock is the "wrong" way up?! At least its different to mine. Looks like an older model. Or a right handed neck on a lefty body? I'm no Kramer expert sadly :(

Mine was bought through MusicYo in 2002. Eighteenth birthday present. Since having that bass a Hohner, 6 string brice, and a Warwick LX Streamer have all been bought and then discarded - my Kramer is part of me, and always will be.

ya the ST series was the 80's with a normal lefty neck but I had a musicyo reversehead lefty not too long ago:

OK - always wondered what these basses sounded like with frets? Any good?
I got my fretless as an 18th Birthday present because I saw the only opportunity at the time to buy a lefty that was fretless and 5 string for a good price - and I'd just been introduced to the music of Pearl Jam so that tipped the scale for the decision! It needed some work on the electronics, and I know the pickups aren't great, the push-pull coil selector is completely pointless too, but with decent strings and a good amp it sounds fantastic. There's a "hollowness" to the sound that really works with flatwound strings, slides don't have as nasal a 'mwaaaah' as with a jazz bass, but the tone is pleasing. I'll put a recording up here when I get the mp3 from my band.

haha well that push/pull on my 422S was not useless it DID make a difference, but I liked the sound with it pulled out and kept hitting it so I reversed the wiring so pushed in was the better of the 2 tones.

I have basement jam videos with me using it, but only from my camcorder, nothing professional.

Trade?

I have a DMZ5000 that I absolutely love. The pickups are Hot and the action is low. No buzzing and all original aside from the knobs. Includes OHSC. It is a slap machine! My only issue is the squared slab body, as I have cubital tunnel and the squared edges hurt my arm as a result. Looking for another Kramer with a rounded/contoured upper body - Preferably a 650b but would consider a DMZ4001/4000 or anything else you might throw at me. Must be natural (no color finishes). Must be similar condition and have low action. Let me know what you've got.

My only Kramer. I ordered it in either '88 or '89 and even though I was charged an extra $75 for lefty (and making me wait almost 6 months for it), they put a right-handed nut on it and gouged out the small slots to accomodate the larger strings, so it buzzed like crazy and I had to replace the nut immediately. And the tension bar on the headstock stripped/ripped out within months. I still have it, but don't put it back on. I'm not sure if simply filling the hole with epoxy and reattaching will help. But I'll never sell it.

I use Dean Markley SR-2000's on it and it has the ballsiest sound. I mainly use Carvin basses, but whip this out at least once per show and get compliments on it. The thing, to me, is a little clumsy to play. I'm thinking of sanding down the neck. ONE THING THOUGH: this thing is a sleeper when it comes to slapping. WOW! It's got some serious punch in that category.

However, I don't remember the model. I was told Forum IV, but I find pics that confirm and pics that conflict. Can anyone help me out on that? I'm also curious as to what type of wood it may be made of. Thanks!

that's a 700ST, I had a few of them and still have my black one. The buzzing nut syndrome issues you describe I never had a problem with because I turn the tuners the opposite way. Your E-string angle is no good that way and will create a miserable buzz. ( I tried it with the first one I owned ) The wood is plywood laminate.

Very cool. Do you still play it?

On occasion. It was my main bass for probably 15 years. I've gravitated to a p bass in the past few years, as well as 5 string. I should post a photo. It's stock, except the tuners. I broke one many years ago, and it was impossible ( before the internet) to find a replacement, so I installed Sperzels on it. It's the only one of my basses that my wife has any affinity for.

I broke one of my machines about 5 years ago as well. I was able to special order a new set from Sam Ash. If you're ever interested in getting the originals, here is a picture of the box with the part numbers..
