The Lefty Union... Revived!

Three things that I see as major stumbling blocks:

1) Some left-handers who are capable of learning to play righty do so. Good for them, but it does dilute the overall total of LH players. And not everyone can do it (despite what the righty community at large seems to think).

2) A significant number of left-handed players think the situation is good enough as is. While there are certainly more instruments available today than ever before, there's still a long way to go. Generally, if someone finds a LH instrument they like, they stop looking, and many don't care from that point. If you're not interested in ever buying a Fender for example, why would you be interested in applying pressure to them?

3) With many things, it's easier to whine about a problem rather than attempt to fix it. If you think that voicing your opinion won't matter to the beancounters at the Righty Guitar Company, you won't try.

These are generally short-sighted points of view. Some will adhere to one or more of these statements, some won't accept any of them. It's depressing to see left-handers on other forums openly say that we have plenty of choice now, so what's the difficulty? They've got their two or three boutique instruments, so they're happy. Nuts to the rest of us.

That and the fact that left-handers in general make herding cats seem easy in comparison.

Taste and opinion vary - that is the way of the world. I am a lefty player, and I like 80s G&L basses. Over the past few years I have found 4 of them. A quick search on ebay right now shows 5 or 6 80s G&Ls for sale. So that means you could reproduce my entire collection in right handed versions right away as long as you have the funds. Where's the fun in that? The fact that mine are lefty makes them infinitely more rare and interesting. If you are into collecting, rare and interesting is a good thing. If you are into playing you can get all different kinds of lefty basses. Voting with your dollars rather than complaining is more likely to get results with the manufacturers and retailers. Support the brands and the stores that support us lefties. Btw there's an early 90s SB2 on ebay right now - wonder if I should bid on it? The thrill of the chase! This thread needs more eye candy. 1983 L2000 - best tone I have ever heard:

1981 L1000 fretless and 1983 L1000 fretted - the fretless has thunderous tone, and might be the only one in existence:

The only problem with this is that by remaining invisible to manufacturers that don't 'support' left-handers, nothing will ever change with them. Making them realize how much market they are losing to LH-friendly companies is the best spur to having them come around. I do agree that supporting the companies that support us is important. But why can't you do that as well as contact and complain to the companies that do little or nothing for us?

Well, here I am...found you guys!
