The Lefty Union... Revived!

We could talk about how it's been reported that Gibson is supposed to make their entire 2014 line available LH, but so far nothing has appeared.

Or how I was searching very old threads here on TB and found several where people were being encouraged to learn to play righty instead of left-handed. Idiots.

Or about that beautiful Engelhart; I have a very old beat-up student model that I rarely play anymore. Righty restrung for LH play.

I have been encouraged to play righty by many people, even quite recently on TB, actually. There is a lot of unintended discrimination against us, I dont know why all righties think that it is easy and better for us to play with a right hand. I would just love to see someone right-handed play a left-handed instrument...

I say screw 'em. As left-handers, most of us are able to play a little bit on righty instruments upside down. Most rightys can't, because they encounter so few left-handers, they never get the chance.

I remember many years ago at a jam party, picking up a RH bass and playing a number (it was a simple enough part). The look on the owner's face when he came back and saw me playing his bass upside down and backwards was priceless.

When rightys try telling you there are "no left-handed pianos", remind them that there are no "right-handed ones" either. ;)

That Wyn has been listed for quite a while.
I bought one of the Douglas Pisces ('54 Pbass style) basses this weekend. Rondo had them on sale for $100. I've had my eye on them for a long time but was holding out hope that Kurt might get some in that were in other colors. But at that price I said the heck with it.

At some point I will mod the headstock to the proper tele-bass shape and if I decide I just can't live with the color I have a couple of cans of ReRanch Daphne Blue. :D

Count me in as well! I guess I'm what you'd call selective ambidextrous. Basically, if I'm learning something new, I can choose either hand to learn with, but bass guitar was an easy choice. Lefty all the way!

When I was 9 years old, I got my first guitar, with lessons included as a birthday present. My (admittedly dim) teacher asked my parents whether I was left or right handed. I am lefty, so that's what they told her. So I learned left.

In hindsight, if I had been forced to learn right, I would have had the advantage of being able to buy any damned bass I want, being able to test drive any bass I the store and pick up any bass my friends may have.

Still, no regrets.

That's assuming that you would have stuck with it. There's no way to know how many people have given up learning to play because they were 'forced' to use the wrong hand.

More and more, guitar makers are being 'forced' to consider left-handed players. In my opinion, it should be illegal to discriminate in this way against a potential 10% of your target customer base. If you find an instrument is not being made in a LH version, contact the company and complain. The more they know we're out here, the better chance we have to get them in line. They're not mind readers at Fender, Gibson, et al. We have to tell 'em.

In a way it saves me money. :)
