The Mars Volta

I only got this album about 2 months ago and I thought it was fantastic. I love prog rock like Porcupine Tree and Dreamtheater so I thought I'd give The Mars Volta a go as people mentioned that they where quite proggy.

Fleas bass work is really good, his tone is nice and round and pulls out some great lines.

Deloused - Fantastic album. All hits, no misses.

Francis the Mute - I might like this better than Deloused. The Widow is the first song I heard by them, and this is their first album I've bought.

Amphutechture - Just as rocking, but a definitely different vibe. My girlfriend likes this one the best.

The Bedlam in Goliath - This is where things went wrong. The mixes sound like either mud or a wall fo noise. There are still a few great tracks (Goliath, Wax Simulacra), but the majority of this album is, to me, a step in the wrong direction.

I haven't picked up Octahedron, but from what I've heard of it, I don't want to. It seems that they've found the direction they've wanted to go in, but they've lost me along the way.
