So..Im the proud owner of Lull #1430.... and all I can say is

HOLY FREAKIN CRAP .... :eek:

I really dont know where to start...This is without a doubt the smoothest...lowest action I HAVE EVER PLAYED... That coming from the likes of Roscoe, MTD, etc.

This is a V4 according the Mike (just got off the phone)Im still getting used to the passive realm and already looking at outboard Pre...but man. The original owner has some misinfo. as I was told Nordstrand split coils but this is loaded with single coil Fralins...:hmm:

Anyways I have more to say but will stop here for now.

Oh to make 2 phone calls and both get answered within 3 rings really makes me happy...:D

I'm already discussing a custom job with him..will be awhile but Mike says he's game...:hyper:

And I'm still mulling over an alder/rosewood MV4. :ninja:

Here's the key thing for me with Mike's basses...probably preaching to the choir a bit, but still. They sound good in a solo setting, but they sound AMAZING in a mix...live or studio setting. You really can't appreciate the magic of these instruments until you hear them in that kind of environment.

First of all... CONGRATS!!!

Secondly... I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!! :D

I like low action... I like to dig in and make it grind, but I like to have a soft touch and make it clean.

My Lull is the only bass I have owned where I was able to set it up TOO WELL. I mean... I thought I liked low action and knew what low action was before I got my Lull.

When I'm playing live, I tend to be quite a bit more aggressive than when I'm sitting at home playing. Even when set up to the best of my ability, all of my other basses are seem to have a lot of tolerance to my aggression.

Sitting at home they seem on the high side and a little more difficult to play than they do when I'm on stage performing and have a ton of energy, etc.

However, I set the Lull up so well that when it came to "Live Time" the action was TOO LOW... I actually had to go home and raise it in order to compensate for my heavier "live" hands.

That is the ONLY bass where I have ever had that "problem"... if that's what you can even call it.

I've been recently sidetracked acquiring a second VERY rare lefty Fender Custom Shop 4-string that I discovered... but, in a few months I am definitely going to lose the Lakland Joe 5 I have and order another Lull.

Most underrated basses EVER.

I can play a Lakland all day long but an MTD or a Modulus doesn't work for me. For this reason I've be hesitant to order one. Otherwise, everything about them would seem right up my alley.

Hey Jerry, I gave you a little plug when i talked to Mike...your comments led me to giving him a shot.

I did test drive the bass live last night. Def. need to adjust to the passive and jazz realm although these Fralins hung pretty tough with my Classic Ray...just a subtle gain increase and I was in business. Just something different coming from humbuckers which I am in love with.

Ok...so, oops I did it again. That M4V kept calling and calling and calling. Last night I brought it home. Swapped out my old Lakland JO, and while that was a little bittersweet, I couldn't be happier. I've really been on a four-string J-Bass vibe lately, trying to go back to the beginning, as Inigo would say. :) This one is a monster with the pre-amp engaged, but what really did it for me was the passive tone. Everything speaks where I like it. So, without further adieu, may I present #1304:

Alder/rosewood, Lindy Fralin SC's, Bart NTBT. Sherwood green w/ matching headstock. I haven't been able to put it down since last night, and it'll definitely see some action on this weekends giggage. Here's a clip...please excuse the hack playing.

Just picked up M5V #1553 from Gelb today, ash/maple in 'Burnt orange metallic' - sort of like a dark candy apple orange, with a birdseye board and pearloid guard. Jerry - I assume you've seen it...... Ed says your "orange beast" was the inspiration for this bass and he ordered it after seeing yours.

Hard to say what attracted me to this color, something that the traditionalists will scoff at, but with the metal flake, pearloid guard and birdseye board, it just looked great to me.

Sorry to say that Jerry's former MTD 535 #1693 was sacrificed for the M5V, which will now sit beside M4V #604 in '59 burst (thanks Wally!).

Jerry - - - if you EVER get tired of the CAR M5V, PLEASE call me first!!

That sounds great , I have a few weeks left until I get my hands on my ash / maple M4V , cant wait !
