^ Great point. OBP-3 & fretless just seem to go together like peanut butter and chocolate. All those upper mids you lose without fret wire seem to bounce back nicely with that pre.

The Duncans are great, IMO. Totally capture the "Fender that shoulda'" vibe. The Bart pre is just icing on the cake for me. Little extra oomph, wee bit of sizzle...yum. The point I can't keep emphasizing enough is how amazed I am at the feedback band leaders, producers/engineers, and fellow musicians provide. They love the sound of these basses.

Great question. Like you, I rarely use it - it stays centered, for the most part. However, in a few rooms where EQ has been difficult, I've really found it to be useful. Cutting the lows a wee bit, while adding in some 250hz mids, for example...took out boominess without removing the oomph. I'll occasionally also boost those lower mids when favoring the bridge pickup, although for the most part I also keep the blend knob centered.

Probably not much help, huh? Sorry. :D I do want to say there's a way of adding a VTC with the three-band pre, but Mike would probably have to confirm/deny. Good luck with everything...

From a session on Saturday. The bass sounded incredible. Ash/maple M5V (w/ SD LHB's) > Lava 'Soar' cable > Radial JDI.

Beautiful! My order for the M5V24PJ just went in 10 minutes ago! Went with Ash/maple instead of alder. Mike thought it would be "louder" acoustically. Bart 3 band pre with VTC added. He also said that the Bart will get the alder "low-mid" sound pretty easily vs. the other way around. You guys will have to wait to see the color.

Didn't ask, but he said since I've been talking to him before NAMM and have an artist deal, he will build mine before all the NAMM orders. business is booming for him. He loves alder/maple, but thought ash would be better for the 5th string on a P/J. I just said "sweet" and "rock it!"

congrats , i love my Lull , ash maple , m4v , best bass ive owned , I saw Mike at NAMM and played one of his 5's , loved it too but have kind of gone back to my 4 strings now , but have heard he may build a 34 scale 5 some day , his 35 was very comfortable to me though , easier to play than my MTD , i for sure will own another Lull , maybe a pj alder rosewood 4 or 5 , you can hear my 4 on the link below , hope to see your bass soon !

Need some help here, guys. I have a V5 with ash body/maple neck and an M5V alder/rosewood. The M5V originally came with an OBP-3 that was replaced with an Audere. I play the V5 much more than the M5V and am now entertaining the thought of selling the M5V with the original OBP-3 and installing the Audere in my V5. The money from the sale would go to the purchase of a T5. :hyper:

To me, what makes this a potentially feasible idea is that while both are similar the V5 is a bit "snappier". However, I liked the tonal possibilities the preamp offered. So doing this would combine the best of both worlds in one bass. I suspect that it would be a pretty good slapper if I wanted to do that.

Thoughts/comments?

Well, The best thing for you right now is that you can swap the pre's and see if you like it. Even if you don't, the passive V5 may still be better for you. Anyway, making room for a T5 is never a bad idea! It will be a totally different animal in the stable. I played one recently, and they're awesome. I like the idea of having the fewest basses that do the most. You actually play everything you have. (more) If you love your J... bring on the T! Good luck.

If you were to put brand new strings on both basses, and run the M5V in passive mode, would they be equally snappy?

Might be a good experiment before you going digging around in cavities.
