Could you please recall the specs of 2001-ish M5Vs?
Particularly: construction peculiarities and electronics (pickups), different to current Lulls.

I too am now putting down my longtime favorite ash maple 55/94 with lakland electronics in favor of my new MV5 with the duncan pickups and the bart preamp. Wow, I thought I was happy with my old tone until now....... when I play the Lakland my drummer says it sounds like there is a blanket over my speaker cabinet. I am still more comfortable with the Lakland neck and feel, but find myself going for the new Lull because I love the sound!

That is exactly how it sounds to me after playing my Lull. It is on its way to the west coast tomorrow as a partial trade for an active Lull PJ5 !

Very nice! Alder/Rosewood is the wood combo on my incoming PJ5. Hmmmm flats you say......I'm going to think about that one.

I love OBP3 but I have to say NTMB works better for me in my M5V. OBP3 is tighter in mids but NTMB is more transparent, more open in my Lull. Well I still fell I need to make sound just a little bit more tighter, maybe more creamy...I found original NTMB wireing (250K pot for blend and 25K volume/after preamp) puts what I need into it...well i have to try it live on gig but I feel I like that change...I think Mike makes his wireing just becouse it is best way how to make instrument active/passive switchable...I'm not electro-expert and I know Luthiers like Mike and others know better what to do ...just my testing

I'm gonna put flats on my Fender when the new Lull arrives. Oops... Did I just say the F word. That's ok guys, mike plek'd my jazz. That was a really fun day hanging in Mike's shop watching him put it on his magical-robot-fret-grinder-majig. It turned it into a totally different bass. It went from a solid fender to irreplaceable. (to me)

I really like the stock pickups. The seller I purchased it from had a Nordy NPJ5 set for me, but after playing these for a couple weeks I told him to sell them off. I just tracked with it last night (first time with the flats) doing a new country tune with a disco beat. It really brought the groove together. The Sadowsky flats are really bright for a flatwound string. They're A LOT more versatile than Labella deep talkin or TI flats i've played. To me there's just something about a P-bass with flats, just so timeless. They really work for the blues/rock and soul groups I play in. They're also the only flats I think have a good (different, but good) slap sound.

I keep stainless rounds on my M5V. These are the only two solid-bodies I have now, so I want them to sound very different.

Wow, this is getting weird...

I traded my 55-94 straight across for my M5V and have never looked back.

The 55-94 was and is a great bass... no doubt about it. But, the M5V is magic. There's just something about it that cannot be denied.

Wow! Killer PJ5, congrats!

An alder/maple Lull PJ5 is the next bass on my radar.

A much as I love my ash/rosewood M5V, I've found I prefer an alder/maple or an alder/rosewood bass.
