Hi i have two PJ5's one two tone burst, swamp-ash maple board Aguilar OBP1, one Black, swamp-ash, rosewood board passive.
In Holland they laugh about the name but i don't give a sh**
I love them!
Thats a nice one man, sunburst and tortoise always works on a P-bass
.How hard are Mike Lulls to get around here? I've never seen one in a shop, although i wasn't really expecting to find one either.
I checked the prices out at Bass Central. The prices seem pretty damned reasonable to me. Maybe I should look at a Lull for a future purchase.
I wonder why we don't see more of them on stages or screens? The price seems to be nigh-on perfect.

It is the best bass Ive ever played.... I own 3 and they all crush the competition......
The white pearl guard and matching headstock are a nice touch. I normally don't like the matching headstock on a maple board, but they look fantastic with a rosewood.
I wasn't fond of matched headstocks and classsic custom Dupont solid finishes either... Until I've got this bass. It looks and feels way different when it's under your hand - just shines from inside-out. Nice

IMO, Mike's instruments are an incredible value. Obviously you have to find the right instrument that really speaks to you, but when you do...it's an amazing thing. In terms of four-string instruments, I've spent a lot of time going back and forth between Fender AmStd and AmDeluxe basses and Lulls...afterward just shaking my head at the small difference in price vs. the disparity in quality and sound. Amazing.

My current order - ash/maple (no face dots), candy apple orange/pearl has me licking my chops in anticipation.

When I see some of the prices for used Lull's in the classifieds, my jaw drops. I guess there just aren't enough people out there that have had a chance to play a Lull. They don't get the same buzz that some of the other boutique basses get.

That looks familiar! Did you pick that up from Blues Infidel on here? I traded away (which looks to be) the exact bass a while ago to him. I clocked the weight at a touch under 8, but not sure how accurate my scale is either... definitely the lightest bass I've ever owned though. And yeah, a little of the Bass knob goes a long way on that one.

Yup. Thats the bass. Makes for an easy gig being so light.
I'm really hooked on the P tone. I never touch the balance knob. Just leave it on the P. Killer for slap, or roll back the tone knob for a nice supportive Motown/Stax sound.
I got this in the mail today... happy day! MV5 #1317, Alder/Maple/Birdseye board, Aggie OPB3 and Duncan single coils... clocks in at 8.5 lbs. Digging it so far, however I will probably pull the OPB3 and replace it with either a OPB1 or Sadowsky pre.
Toby - an absolutely beauty of an MV5: fantastic Birdseye Maple board as always from the shop, and the White Pearloid pickguard going perfectly with the finish. Two questions for you, however: Is that "[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]"? It looks not quite bright or metallic enough to be "[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]" or "Candy Red", but as all three of those colors are metallics/sparkles that have a degree of color-shifting to them it can be hard to tell them apart in photos.
Also, any particular reason for swapping the OBP-3 with a 1 or a Sadowsky? Are you simply a boost-only type-o'-guy, or is there something specific that you dislike in the OBP-3s? Still, a killer bass no matter what preamp it'll have in it!
Also, I've seen this listing up for a while but it's only been recently that the Atlanta Bass Gallery has posted photos of it - a rare (Mike has stated he's only made "a handful - 4 to 5") M5 Lined Fretless in Transparent Amber with Quilted Maple top, Swamp Ash body, Maple neck and lined Ebony fingerboard, and Custom Duncan Pickups & standard Bartolini 18V NTMB preamp!...

Now, seeing that this M5f is quite literally the "Sister" to Invalid Link Removed but with a Quilted Maple top as opposed to Flame and a few other extremely minor items (Ebony vs Maple 'boards, Chrome vs Black hardware, In-Line vs "Diamond"-pattern control layout) and that I've desired a Fretless M5 ever since I purchased my Modern 5 and especially since I got the chance to play one of the mythical few (Bryan Beller's M5 fretless in Caramel Burst, as sweet a bass as I've ever played and IMO the epitome of a "Modern Jazz-type fretless bass)) I think it's only fair that I be able to purchase said fretless. And given that the Better Half will be graduating from her Doctoral Program soon, has been interviewing for some nicely prestigious-sounding head of programs at Universities and will hopefully soon bringing in "The Big Bucks" this bass will be within my league price-wise soon enough. But as she's just finishing up her Internship Year (at a school a 5-hour drive away, which has made this year "The Suck" being separated from your Partner, especially when it's your 10th Anniversary
) and is currently interviewing, "The Big Bucks" aren't *quite* here yet. Thus I propose that My New Best (and well-funded) Friend in The Mike Lull Club purchase this bass in toto for me until I'm in a position to re-reimburse said BFF.

Supposed to be Candy Apple Red...
I've never liked the OPB3, IMHO it has too much boost too quickly and no I am not a boost only fan... that said I do like the Sado pre quite a lot - if not for the great tone but also for its simplicity.
