juststrings.com sells individuals cheap. I buy all my high C strings from them for about $6 ea.

but the G and D strings sound really different on a 35"-scale bass. I'm fine with longer scale ergonomically-wise. but I like the sound of these two higher strings on my 4-ers better. that's why my current order is being built with 34"-scale. I was assured that the B will be nice and defined. we'll see how it'll turn out. waiting, waiting...

Cool. Thanks for the replies. About the string spacing, if you look at the 5 string models Lakland or Sadowsky puts out, they have 19mm spacing right, but the neck seems very very wide. That's kind of a deal breaker for me. I started out on a cheap ESP 5 string bass (which I still use although I've added EMG's and an Aguilar pre) and the one thing I've taken on from that is that I love narrow spacing on the right hand. 17mm or 17.5.

I don't know if Mike builds basses with spacing that's as narrow as that, but the point I'm trying to make is that the Lull basses I've seen don't seem have HUGE necks. They looks like comfortable necks that aren't overly wide or narrow and that can please a lot of people.

Cool. One more thing I want to add. While I like narrow spacing, I have always, always loved the sound of a Jazz bass or a PJ hybrid. There's just something to that tone that's timeless and fits in well with everything.

Pretty hard to find a true Jazz or a PJ with narrow spacing IMO.

I`ve had my lefty Lull M5V now for a week and I´m so pleased with it both soundwise and playwise. I have a few other high end basses but I think this one beat them all IMHO.
Any Lull 5MV owners out there who know what strings are installed from the beginning and the difference between the Bart pre and the Aguilar OP3 pre and why Mike use two different kind of pre´s?

I've had my M5V (ash/maple) with Bart pre for a week now, and have gigged with it three times. I had spent several months occasionally testing out a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 at a local music store, and it's very obvious that the Lull M5V wins in every category imaginable.

It blows that Fender Am Deluxe away in terms of tone, feel, balance, weight, looks, and quality of materials/hardware. I'm so glad I saved up for the Lull instead of taking the less expensive, faster route.
The low B string on this M5V... Wow!!!

I picked up a deluxe the other day and went "meh." Hung it back up pretty quick. I could see people being happy with it... That is if they haven't played a lull. :)

This is my Lull M5, she's been my main player for over a year now, which is saying something. Light as a feather, cuts through a mix like a chainsaw. As I read this thread, I see MANY more people with the Vintage model(s). Just curious how many of you have the M5 or M4 ? Any other models without a pick guard?

Sweet bass!

FYI - The XL designation is just for the four-string "M" model. There's a 21-fret M4 and a 24-fret M4XL. All M5's are 24 fret.

I've Had my M5 for a few years now... Mine is an earlier version of it, Paul had told me that mine was one of the prototypes made for NAMM and then I'm assuming that Jim Rubio from ATL Bass Gallery bought it off him, which is where I got it. *AT A GREAT PRICE might I add. I really have had no complaints on this bass ever. From nor myself or sound guys.

You theatre guys know what I'm talking about. Anyways heres a photo.

Also, there are Orange circular stickers on my knobs.... just for fun.. they look cool
