This arrived yesterday and we're just getting acquainted.
Loving it so far
love the grain on this piece of solid mahogany
Sounds great. I'm gonna try a few tweaks, like different strings (Cobalts for sure) to coax some more growl out of it.

That neck pickup looks to be in about the same position as a P pickup. I wonder how they'd compare?
Yes, the neck pickup is supposed to be in the P-bass sweet spot position. The bridge pickup more or less where a J pickup is in a P-J setup.

Hey guys, what do you use to make adjustments to the truss rod? Is it necessary to remove the pickguard to do so?
I used a very large flathead screwdriver. I removed the PG and the neck. I didn't want to risk marring the pickguard or the body to save the ten minutes it took to unbolt the neck. timesaver! loosen the strings till they are completely floppy, then capo them at the first fret. that saves me a TON of time from having to restring it after unbolt ing the neck.
You may want to consider an offset screwdriver.

Nope, neither. Just get a short offset screwdriver, and simply be careful with it.
BUT...
Funny you should ask, because I really don't like the flathead adjuster screws, and in theory, there are "compatible" allen key caps that are screw-on replacements (10-32 thread), in which case you'd use a 3/16 allen key... or, if the notch is cut sufficiently, which I hope it is, a long t-handle ball-end hex... like the Fender tool.
All this stuff lands in my office next week, and I'm gonna' try it on my bass. I'll let y'all know how it works out, but advice from Mike's shop is it should be fine.

You maybe familiar with the Darkstar pickups? Unique passive pickup with some bite.
I have owned 2 basses (other manufacturer) with Darkstars, and now this bass sounds a lot like those, but with a "something" else that I just can't describe, all I know it now sounds great. 1 happy camper here.
