Dave that is my core my 'flat' tone now. (With the pre set flat)
I started doing to couple older J basses as well. There is a difference in the mids for sure and it might be a placebo But...I swear it opened up the sound.
Whenever my basses had the option of running in series I always preferred it but I've never tried it on a J bass.

I have a JT5-24 coming back from the finisher and I asked Mike to just wire it straight up in series. No pan pot but a switch.
Is it possible to still get a club number? This is my Lull V4 in Fiesta red. Thanks!

Well, I played one on a store and it looked like it had a cross-nut style and not a socket like most basses. I guess I'm wondering if it was an older model.

Hi Everyone,
I've got a Lull M5V and am considering making it a PJ5 (with offset body!)
I know some of you have your basses set up where you can switch between pickup configurations (P-J/J-J). When you switch, is it a soldering job or does it work some other way?
For those of you playing the 5-string P pickup, do you use the Lull, or the Nordstrand, or something else? I tend to like "hot" P-bass pickups, like quarter pounders and G&L MFDs, but I also loved the sound of a Lull P4 with Fralins that I played in a store.
This bass will play mostly rock and dub, I like overdrive and effects. I use my fingers but like an aggressive pick-like attack.
Finally, if you had a trusted local luthier, would you let them do the work, or would you ship it back to Seattle? My issue is I'm in Canada and it'll add a LOT to the cost of the mod to ship it across the border.
I suppose I could also do a trade for a PJ5 if someone were interested, but I do actually really like the feel of this particular bass (and it's Ash/Maple, which I think sounds great on P basses), so I am tempted to just customize.

Thanks. I don't really want to own two 5-strings right now, so I'd rather have one that can be either kind of animal.
I used to own an M5V (ash/rosewood) that Mike routed for both P/J J/J, wired with quick connect clips and two pickguards. I did really like the tones I could get out of the P/J configuration!
That said, if you're a P bass tone purist: keep in mind that the P PU (on an M5V P/J J/J duo) will be routed closer to the neck, in order to keep the two separate pickguards looking clean, with no visible gaps.
