So what preamp could you suggest? I do not really want something complex, I rarely use even the mid knob. My personal research brought me to Sadowsky onboard, but I do want to have more info.

If you want something a bit more subtle and yet still have a active pre that does not have any added compression aspects that would be Nordstrand.

I appreciate that.
One thing I always say regarding tone on brighter basses, it's easier to tame a beast, than take a warmer basses and make them into snap machines.

Do any of you Lull heads have any experience of Mikes custom pick ups?
I am due to trade my PJ5 which is loaded with Nordy's for a PJ4 which has Mikes custom pickups in it.
I believe that the customs are made by Seymour Duncan? but have never heard any so what should I expect?
Similar? More vintage? More modern?
It wont be a deal breaker either way as a new set of pick ups is relatively cheap to source.....

I would think the Duncans slightly more vintage sounding, but both are going to inhabit similar tonic space.
I had Duncans in a PJ5, and I liked them just fine. Most of my P4's have been Fralins, until I got on the Geezer bandwagon.

Congrats! I originally custom ordered that one. It is the most beautiful bass I have ever seen, and the best sounding bass I have heard. The sole, agonizing reason I parted with it was that when seated, lack of an upper edge/forearm rest made it very uncomfy for me. I'm a lazy hobbyist and most of my playing is seated. To make up for it, I ordered a JT5 (with those same glorious pickups), maple board, same color, with a custom PG......due in June/July.........

It does sound killer. It'd hard to find the comfort zone I'm looking for with the way the neck sticks out in a standing position and I'm looking for a way to bring the strap button out. I can get insanely low action on it and it's the best sounding passive bass I've ever owned. I've always been an upgrade fanatic but there's just nothing I can do with it besides a new pickguard.
