Hi Fellas, loving the new Lull PJ4-24.. Had a couple gigs on it this past week (and it played great) but it's now in the process of adapting to the NM climate vs Seattle so is in need of some truss rod adjusting. Since it is Friday night and past closing time up at Mike's shop I figured I'd confirm with you fine folks..
Lull uses a standard truss rod correct? In other words counter clockwise loosens the rod and adds relief and clockwise tightens and decreases relief... sound right?

Can someone compare the neck profiles of Sadowsky and Lull basses? I really like the neck on my Sad NYC J4, but would like to have a more vintage sounding J with single coils as well, so I am tempted to order a Lull V4.

I'm sure others have their opinion, but I think they are very comparable, and I own examples of each. Both very comfy.

I think my sadowsky feels thicker front to back than do my Lulls. Both feel great.

I have a Will Lee and a custm NYC w a Will Lee profile, so narrower. However my original NYC V4 was similar to my Lull T4 for sure.

I have a 34" scale M5V as well as pretty much the identical Sadowsky counterpart, and to me, the neck on the Sadowsky is a much more "standard" C profile, whereas the Lull feels "faster" to me... thinner and more slender.

I'm perfectly comfortable on both, but the Lull definitely feels smaller/shaved by comparison to me.

I need some advice from my fellow Mike Lull players. I'm starting to think about my next Lull build, for when I eventually get the money to order it. There are a few options I need advice on. Here's what I know that I want for sure...

- Mike Lull M5V with 34" scale
- Madagascar Rosewood fretboard (I'm about 90% sure I want this over the birdseye maple fretboard)
- Nordstrand NJ5S hum canceling jazz pickups

I'm having trouble deciding which body wood I want (alder or swamp ash) and which preamp I want (Bartolini, Nordstrand, or Aguilar).

Can you guys give me some advice on the body wood and preamp selection? Keep in mind that they will be paired with the Madagascar RW fretboard and the NJ5S pickups. From what I understand, the Madagascar fretboard slightly adds more clarity to the hi-mids (in comparison to the normal Indian Rosewood), and the NJ5S pickups slightly takes away some hi-mids (in comparison to the pure single coils). So, alder or ash with this combination? I'm purely a finger-style player, if that helps. Slap tone is irrelevant for me.

On the preamps, I'm very uneducated on these. The Bartolini has no upcharge, whereas the Aguilar and Nordstrand preamps are both a $200 upcharge. My main concern, however, is which one will work and sound the best with the other options that I've already decided on. Which would you recommend? Thanks for any feedback you guys can give.

Well, I can comment on the Nordstrand pickups with Aguilar pre combo, which I have on my TC4, and its just a fantastic combo for me. It's just what a jazz should sound like in my book and is my go-to bass when I want to record. I chose ash for that bass, more for looks than for tone, because I wanted a trans finish. Everything else is gravy.

It's a Lull, it will look, feel, and sound great.
