+1 The plastic compartment is kind of a mixed blessing... easy, but a little fragile. The MTD/Lull execution (assuming Lull does brass inserts like MTD) is a good one. I agree.... I enjoy never having to open up the main compartment, and while batteries virtually never leak any more, nice to have them not close to the important stuff.


Again, minor deal.

I just took my battery plate off of my PJ5-24 and it does not have brass inserts for the screws. It may be worth asking Mike why not, but I'm personally not worried one bit. The screws are high quality and fairly long. If I strip the wood in these holes that's my bad for putting way too much torque on them. I feel confident that I'm good for the next 30 years... And yes, I'll have this bass at least that long. Hands down one of the best basses I've ever held.

Probably because unless you're abusive with tightening the screws, it should last pretty much forever with how infrequently batteries actually need to be replaced. And even if you did own and play the bass enough to wear them out without being abusive with them, you can always put inserts in later or go with slightly longer screws. Lots of options... but honestly, shouldn't matter anyway...

Those screws just need to be snug enough to have the plastic "meet" the body and not rattle around. Nothing more. They do not need to be "tight" at all. Those holes should last MANY MANY uses if you treat them that way.

I just got off the phone with Paul, and said that Mike agreed to use brass inserts on my bass since I'm not getting a battery compartment. I agree its not a big issue, but I liked the brass inserts better so I'm having them installed.

yeah, for me it's really more about just having it all in with the elex than dealing with screws, so i'd always prefer a separate battery space. i do understand the aesthetic thing tho.

^ Isn't it cool, that after you place your order and have a question or two, you call the company and get Paul (who has helped me in the past and always pleasant to deal with), who is happy to assist and professional. What customer service for an already great company.

There are a few companies that are the opposite of this and they are biting the dust....., I heard there is an extensive thread on one such bass builder.....:ninja:
