(This is what I personally did).

3. Go and snatch up his gorgeous bass.

4. Any other reaction I may have missed.

BTW guys, I called Lull Guitars and talked to Mike himself. Great guy!
I told him about my tone issues and on his recommendation, I ordered a set of Bassline humcancelling pups. I have a Sadowsky preamp in my Modern 5 that I'm going to hang onto for now until I hear what the Basslines sound like.

Can't wait.....:hyper:

I'd like a # please!:hyper:

I saw Bryan Beller at BassBash in Anaheim at NAMM '07. I was blown away by his tone AND his awesome chops. The next day I was at Lull's booth and saw Beller doing a demo. Great guy and player! I looked all over NAMM to find something that could take my mind off of the Mike Lull basses, but 2 days later, I placed my order for one that Mike told me about that wasn't at the show. I bought it sight unseen and it's now my #1 gun. I did a few adjustments to lower the action ( I like it really low )_ and it will do that, no problem. I've changed the strings and the batteries and it's always good to go. :cool:
I play church worship, 3 piece hardcore rock and another 3 piece soul jazz gospel thing as my main adventures. And then I'll occasionally spend a little time doing punk, powerpop and solo work. This bass goes everywhere with me and it always works the mix. My only grunt with it is that the lower horn is a bit tight for me to work the upper registers of the neck; that problem will someday be solved with a Lull Modern 5.

As much as I love my 3-tone/Black pg/RW combo M5V... This just about killed me... I've always wanted a Natural/Black/Maple J eversince the first time I layed eyes on a '75.

I do agree with you on the lower cutaway... I find it a little tight myself. I just use it as a reminder to not solo so much and stay in the bass register... hahaha.

Hey John (Basso Gruvitas), I'm glad to hear that you may have found a solution to your tone issues with the M5... I'm sure it's awesome as is but that thing is gonna smoke even more!

Thanks for the nice comments, guys! For me, it's much more about the playability, the sound and the inspiration of a bass that keeps me going back for more, rather than looks or dollar value. You can see for yourself if you look over my profile at the basses I've owned and played for years. My Lull is by far the most I've ever payed for a bass and the only brand new one I've bought since 1976. We should all realize how fortunate we are to be able to work such a high quality instrument.
I still want an M5!:eek:

In view of recent death threats received from fellow ML Club members and an upswing in my financial status, there's a good chance I'll be removing the M5V from the "for sale" forum. I was able to sell my firstborn male child to a local infertile couple so I should be able to cover my outstanding debts. Dehn (below) is a little pissed about it as he is 23 and a paramedic in the Pittsburgh area.

If I hold onto it, I'm interested in swapping out the Basslines SC's for some type of humbucker. I've been offered a pair of Sadowsky J's which may do the trick if the dimensions match up. How would they sound with the existing Bart 3 band pre? If not a good pairing, what other pre's might you suggest?

It's funny - you might get Sadowsky pups to match your Bart pre. I have Bart pups and a Sadowsky pre. This would be a cool opportunity to swap notes on what the Lulls sound like with these unusual combos.

On my bass, the Sadowsky bass and treble boosts are definitely audible but the Bart "signature" tone is always there. Over the years, I have just become tired of that signature tone so I have Basslines coming from Mike. Looking forward to that.

I myself; just after mentioning that my M5V is a dream; am entertaining the idea of ordering an Aguilar pre from Mike... But then again, I am working on a deal that may possibly land me a DB750/DB212 rig so that's probably enough "Aguilar sound" for me... Hmmmm.

Just thinking out loud here guys.

I have a Sadowsky preamp in my Modern 5 now -- with Basslines coming.

Should I:

A) keep the Sadowsky in (which means I have a dummy switch in the bass or a hole or plug)?
B) get an Aguilar OBP-3?
C) Get a Duncan 3-band pre to match up to the Basslines?
D) other suggestions?

I don't want a Bart preamp in there. My Modern 5 will be a no-Bart zone.

Get the aggie, IMHO and IME. I have a Duncan pre. Its nice, but my aggie destroys. I have the Duncun p'ups with aggie pre and could not be happier. That is an amazing combo.

I've never really been a fan of the SD preamp, BUT, I will add this... I'd suggest you FIRST listen to the Sadowsky with the pickups and see what you think before you swap more stuff. FYI, you can leave the pot/knob in the hole to fill it up so it doesn't look weird. :)

Agreed, but if you get the chance to pick up the aggie for cheap, go for it. It is worth the try, even if you like the Sadowsky better. :)
