The Mike Lull Club

I just sent my Modern 5 to Mike for some set up work. It's an "older" bass and that batch had lesser-quality truss rods. I think I'm a victim of one of those. Also, I told Mike to look at the fingerboard to see if it needed planing, AND most likely a PLEK'ing too.

What era are we talking about exactly? Mine is a 2002. I recently emailed Roger to get some advice as it seemed like my truss rod had "ran out of adjustment." Specially with the one day hot next day cold weather here in SoCal lately, the neck on mine was moving slightly - not much but enough for me to notice. Roger said a refret would fix it if that was really the case but they would have to look at it to confirm anything... Not a rush, the bass is still great.

Mine is a 2000, so by boutique bass standards, it's an antique!:p
It sounds like I'm encountering the same thing - truss rod is not cooperating and I may need either fretboard planed, refret, or PLEK or any combo of the above.

I hope to hear from Mike next week.:hiding::help:

Mike just finished my new PJ4. Amazing tone and feel, this is the perfect PJ for me.

Any word on your bass John? Do you have it back yet?

Yeah, you would NOT BELIEVE what Mike found. The original truss rod was at some point replaced with another which was ruined. That's why I could not get rid of the fret buzz. Also, some luthier along the way put epoxy in the truss rod cavity so turning the rod was pretty fruitless. SOOOOOOOO.....

I authorized Mike to make me a whole new neck! From scratch! He said the birdseye maple fingerboard will have more figuring than the original, it will be PLEK'd for setup, and it will have a working truss rod! I also ordered a Lull gig bag rather than the old hardshell I used to have.

It REALLY set me back but there was no other solution for that neck - it was ruined.

It will probably show up sometime before Christmas.

Wow, what an adventure! I'm glad it worked out. I had a chance to snag a couple different M5's on eBay this weekend (the older body style like yours) but decided to hold off with the economy as it is and all... Can't wait to see your revamped bass!

hi my M5V are arrive look it .
i going to take more pics and sound clip later.

That's beautiful Marc! Enjoy it!

I called Lull's office and the bass will probably ship out the week after Thanksgiving. REALLY looking forward to playing it again!

Wow, I would love to snag some more Lull's. M5's are always a temptation but I think you're wise to hold on to your money.

Is this club still open to members? Noob here (and in general), a friend of mine pointed me to #529 last summer. It's a beautiful bass and unbelievable playability

Ya man, you can't talk about such and such bass with such and such serial number and hold out on pics... Hahaha.

Being a noob on TB, maybe you are not familiar with one of the top rules here: No pics = No bass.

Looking forward to seeing it man. Peace.
