It looks like a flathead screw driver would do the trick, but fitting a standard screwdriver in there would seem quite awkward. What do/have you guys used? Is there flat head screw driver available that fits in there well... bent at a 90 angle or something?

A long shafted std. screwdriver held at a slight angle works well. You can also find right angle screwdrivers at any quality hardware store.

I made a trivial point with all of this input loading stuff....just for discussion, really. But if you do the math and it works out that (for ease of calculating) 1V into a 10k load pulls 100uA or a tenth of a milliampere. 10k is a very low impedance for the input of a bass amp...but it could happen on an "active only" input. My MPP-1 preamp has a 1Meg input impedance, so with that same 1V signal across it you pull 2 orders of magnitude less... or 1uA or a thousandth of a milliampere. So the difference from amp to amp could be very significant. Orders of magnitude represent exponential changes, obviously. But the point is that even a particularly "electron thirsty" input won't make much difference compared to quiescent current requirements. TYPICALLY. So in real life, the chances of that factor affecting you are slim.

The other factor is that the outputs of most preamps have a load resistor which winds up in parallel with the input of the amp. So that 1M in parallel with (for argument's sake) 100k winds up having the preamp driving 90.9k when it's active and 100k when it's passive. Either way, there's rarely enough voltage being developed at the output to amount to a significant difference in current consumption.

I ordered Brian Beller's new album, Thanks In Advance which included the special-edition DVD, To Nothing. The DVD is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the new album (broken down by song) and also features a "bass only" section focusing solely on Brian's bass tracking sessions. His two Lull Modern 5s feature prominently (as one would guess) and sound great!!

Congrats Marc! I'm glad you finally decided to order one... You will love it! The natural w/ black pickguard is still my favorite look for a J bass. Maybe you can email me back a soundclip of yours when you have it - I'm curious to hear the Aguilar preamp.

When will it be ready? Did you say in 2 weeks? That's fast! Or did you order it a while ago?

Yeah, Mike didn't give me progress pics when mine was being built, but it was amazing cracking open the case. I played my Lull tonight guys, and let me tell ya, bass does not get much better than that. I love this instrument!

Hey all,
Been WAY too busy to chat here. Sorry.

I just sent my Modern 5 to Mike for some set up work. It's an "older" bass and that batch had lesser-quality truss rods. I think I'm a victim of one of those. Also, I told Mike to look at the fingerboard to see if it needed planing, AND most likely a PLEK'ing too.

Wow, I'm a bit nervous here.:help:

I know Mike has a stellar reputation, but I still want my baby to be okay.

Who here has personally had Mike do work on their Lulls?
