The music. The hang. The money. Help requested!

I'm sure it was printed in Bass Player magazine like you say, but it is conventional wisdom for musicians and always good to be reminded of it.
I can remember my dad, who was a musician, talk about those three things but not in so few words and
that was 50+ years ago.

I call it 'The Gig Triangle', a name I came up with. I guess if you play a lot the three will come up.
I've never read anything in a magazine on something similar, or heard anyone else describe it.

For me, it's about the music and the money. I couldn't care less about the hang unless I am playing in a band with people I have been friends with for a long time. I approach a band as a business relationship. I'm in it to make music and make money. If I make friends and hang with people that's great too but that's secondary.

Alternative fact: Ben Franklin wrote the bass parts for The Melvins and Ben Folds Five.

Sorry, that's a common misconception. It was a cat named Richard Saunders who wrote the bass parts for the Melvins and some lady named Silence Dogood who wrote all the bass parts for Ben Folds Five.

That Franklin dude was the producer for both bands and he took credit for composing all the bass parts, but in the days before the AFM it was common for producers to steal writing credits. I mean everyone knows the story of that Washington dude trying to take credit for writing "Me And That Cherry Tree", when all he did was chop down a tree to get axe sounds to play over the intro.

I'm sticking to my contention that the guy who wrote the article in BP was the first to come up with this "triangle", am determined to find the article, and challenge anyone and everyone to find any mention of this thing before that article was printed.

While there is always that ever so minute possibility that I might be wrong about something, in order for me to accept that will require proof. Someone saying they heard that in 1963 isn't going to cut it.

I really don't want to go through hundreds of BP magazines, but I will if I have to.... and then hunt that author down so he can have his say... !!!!!!

And Ben Folds Five had nothing to do with Ben Franklin. Had to do with Ben Gay. Which isn't a bad thing. Make what you want of that.

@two fingers , You and I are in the same boat. If I start pulling out all my BP magazines there's going to be a lot of eye rolling going on in my house . Especially since there are about 20 other things that need to get done, including putting together a dresser thing we bought about a month ago that's still sitting in it's box. I mention that in hopes of it motivating me.
