The music. The hang. The money. Help requested!

So, what I get out of this so far is: Tony Franklin is Ben Franklin's direct descendent. Given all the years they've been around, Ben's instrument's frets were rusted beyond repair, so Tony went Fretless. Is that right?

I do like my 4 syllable words.

Bear in mind that a TB member has already claimed ownership, in writing, of the concept....and has further claimed that he's never heard it before. The gauntlet has been thrown down!

Maybe he's the author I'm looking for.

Maybe the guy who wrote that BP article is taking credit for something he shouldn't be taking credit for.

Maybe Joe Nerve has been appointed by the muses to settle this here thing.

Maybe Joe Nerve was never entirely comfortable speaking of himself in the 3rd person.

Gotta go break that BP mag box out now...

This must come to an end!

I love the illeism in this post.

I think I found it @Joe Nerve his name was Sean O'Bryan Smith.

I knew it started with a Sean.

No need to bust out the old BP's ;)
He didn't come up in any searches with triangle, bass player magazine, or music/hang/money...

But hopefully, we're getting closer.

He doesn't come up in a search in BP mag either.

I'd bet on it. I read and re-read that article so many times. I can see the pic clearly. Bald dude with glasses. Look up Sean O'Bryan Smith and tell me what he looks like.

By "found it" do you mean in the interwebz? The magazine itself? What are we talking about man?!?!?!?

You can't just driveby us like that! What kind of hit and run:rage::banghead::spit::mad:...... (takes a deep breath)

Seriously, details man. Define "found it". :D

I stand by my statement, lol.

Honestly though I took that article to heart as at the time it made a ton of sense in the 3-4 projects I was doing. I even showed it to other bandmembers who were in the same sitch as me.

For me, there might be a #4 criteria: Goodness of the gigs. I remember a few bands around the scene that made little money, music was just ok, a few of the guys where dicks, but they got killer gigs and their shows were always packed, so many local musicians would deal with all that and say yes if asked to join.

Sounds like some of you guys need to do a little home purging.... ;)

*sigh* I started off really strong this year. I even started a thread about it. Then life got in the way. A few truckloads and trailer loads all year so far. Not nearly as far as I wanted to be by now.

I have a couple of free for pickup ads on Craigslist right now for some furniture up in my bonus/jam room.

My only practical goal for vacation next week is to hammer out a schedule with the queen for getting back to it when we return....that and to finish reading @Joe Nerve 's book.

OK, I, like Joe, am just procrastinating. Gotta get some work done. And this time, I mean it! :wacky:

So, as long as the crowds were big you would play iffy music with jerks for virtually no money? Wow.

Ya know... I gotta give you that one :).

Maybe you and I can rewrite this whole thing, call it the "gig square", and claim credit for centuries to come! Unless of course you want to claim all the credit yourself, but then don't use my "gig square" thing or I'll sue.

I know that sounded sarcastic, but I meant it to be playful. I really do agree. I have taken gigs because they were playing the top clubs. It makes for good networking, and it's also a lot of fun.

I'd also turn down a $400 wedding to play a night at MSG for nothing, in a heartbeat. I know others wouldn't feel the same, but yeah - just telling my truth here. If it meant playing every weekend for no money, that would be a different story. Joe Nerve couldn't do that.
