The New Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V

Ok Now Just got my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V Bass back today from Gibson Epiphone RMA Repair Today / Plugged it in and Holy S#@T!! ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS IS NOW ONE KICK ASS BASS!!! IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC THE "B" STRING ISSUE IS GONE! THE LOWS ARE ALL THERE AND THE HIGHS & LOWS SOUND SO CRISP! WITH A NICE TIGHT PUNCH!!
I MAY JUST GO BUY ANOTHER ONE!! GO OUT AND BUY ONE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!
Also got a Free hat with my return, MY HATS ARE OFF TO THE Gibson Epiphone Cust. Service Dept. THEY REALLY DO CARE!! From when they picked it up from me to when I got it back it was about the same as emperorbassman appox. 12 days, But well worth it!

I played one today at musician's friend, and I was pretty impressed. The action needed work, and the strings were crap, but over all a pretty great bass. They had it discounted to 504 because of pick guard scratches, and an extra %30 percent off scratch and dent. If only I had the money.

Very glad to hear it. Enjoy! I'm going to sit on the sidelines until spring and try again.

Hi,

Does anyone know what the four controls on the Thunderbird Pro do? My brother is lucky enough to have one but the instructions that came with the bass (and available on the epiphone downloads section) only give details for the Thunderbird IV - which has 3. Can anybody help?

One control is the volume - this is the free turning one.
The other three controls have a 'notch' halfway that allows the controls to be set in the middle but then adjusted up or down.

Cheers

Those would be the "active" controls. According to Musicians Friend they are blend, high EQ and low EQ.

The notch on the controls would be like a cut or boost.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the update folks.
I just got some $$$ for it....

ANY news on which case fits the 5 string?
I do know the Epi case fits Gibson, Orville(and Orville by Gibson), and Brice T-Birds but was not sure about the 5'er.

I just received word today from gibson cust. service dept. that a custom fit case for the epiphone thunderbird pro 4 string & Pro 5 string basses will be out in the next 60 days, I had contacted them last week about the bass not fitting some of the epiphone cases that are on the market and just received the email today about the new form fitting custom cases. Do not know what the cost will be yet. anyway thought I would pass this on.:hyper:

It's gotta be a TKL since they all are from Gib/Epi in recent years and TKL has the molds(foam shaping) that just need slight tweaks for the 5'er.

Thanks for the GREAT news thunder!
I wouldn't be surprised if bassphreak had one sent. In the past 10 years, it's been my experience that new or unique models(i.e. the Epi neck-thru Batbass aka goth SG with a cutout of the tail, bassphreaks, Epi Explorer, and now this one maybe) all have cases that can ship with them when new and if ordered WITH the original bass order. Even then, it can be hit or miss. With the Epi Batbass, it took 25 emails to dealers, reps, and Epi/Gibson to finally have one dealer find one somewhere in a warehouse and get it to me. A year later when another batbass showed up here(yes, they are good cheap neck-thru's), that same dealer and Epi rep said they don't/never made any(so yeah, I sent him his own email from when he sold me one!).

One paycheck from ordering......

Let's see...I think 1 word will cover this: SCORE!!!

(just came up on ebay, BIN...I did, with a case. The pic is from the ad; I will post better pix when I receive the bass, should be a few days)

bassplayer8953:
Is that the Epi case or "a case that fits OK" ?
Yesterday is the 60 day mark if my math is right....

Thunder:
You hear any more about a case for these?

Yeah, you're right...I thought I posted pix on this thread, must have been on another T bird discussion (several going on a couple of months ago)...anyway, bass shipped to me, standard Epi IV case. Been playing it a lot, great player, feels just like the Gibson 'bird I already own, except for the obvious differences in finish (hi-gloss vs oiled/satin):

Regarding the standard Epi case for the pro, it's a tight fit...very tight fit. Body squeezed into the opening better after I relocated the strap button from the upper body to the heel of the neck (which I highly recommend, to reduce neck dive, & give more of a Gibson feel, visible on pic of backs of basses, above). The foam in the case is slowly becoming more compliant, so eventually should be ok.
