It's not what "Flyers fans" complain about with Crosby. It's what everyone complains about with Crosby.

And, no, I don't like it when Giroux does it, either. I hope that he uses this experience and whatever comes out of it to learn to keep that element out of his game.

In watching the game last night, and again watching the Youtube video, I got the impression that Giroux was intentionally trying to put a late shot on Zubris after he got rid of the puck, but that he wasn't intentionally trying to target the head (it look like he made a point of trying to keep his elbows down, and his feet didn't leave the ice), but he got the head nevertheless because of the way Zubris's head was down. Based on the fact that it happened in the course of the game out of frustration with a non-call and the fact that Zubris was not injured, my guess is that he'll get a fine or possibly a one game suspension.

As a long-suffering Kings fan, I'll admit that I'm nervous about each round. They are playing above expectations, and I have a dark feeling it's a house of straw not a house of bricks.

That said, even if the Kings get wiped out in the next round, no one can justifiably call it a choke. A choke is when you're expected to win and you don't. If the Kings had failed to win even one game in Round 1, then maybe you could call choke, but even then, probably not. For examples of choking, please reference this year's Canucks, Blues, and Penguins. Notice also that 2 of those examples were at the hands of the Kings.

Giroux is the last Flyer I would think to get suspended. Hitting guys in the head is not cool. He's fortunate to only get a game. Ends up the Flyers aren't quite the choirboys they were made out to be in the series with the Pens.

I think that given the precedent that Shanahan has set in recent decisions with other suspensions (or lack of suspensions), one game is the upper bound of what would have been reasonable given all of the circstances surrounding this particular incident.

I was hoping that the decision would be just a fine rather than a game, since I thought that this incident was less egregious than the Shea Weber incident, but I'm not going to argue that the decision is unreasonable.

The Giroux suspension is warranted (in comparison to others handed down this year). Players from 20 years ago are probably shaking their heads in disbelief over how tightly things are called now; but that's a different subject altogether. Giroux's frustration with the ref several seconds before caused him to lose control and take a stupid penalty.

I will say that if you compare that play with the play in the Pittsburgh series when Neal launched himself into the air to level Couturier, Neal's was worse. And he didn't get a suspension for his hit on Couturier. He got one game for his hit on Giroux soon after the Couturier hit, but Shanahan gave him a pass on the Couturier hit. Neal should have received a two-game suspension.

That's not to say that Giroux should not have gotten a game. That's fine. But it would be nice to see some consistency from Shanahan. Neal got away unscathed on the Couturier hit. Weber got away unscathed on his shenanigans. How 'bout some consistency, Shanahan!

If the Devils end it tomorrow, it's a shame Giroux won't be there to go through the handshake line. He should have to suffer that embarrassment after the pathetic performance of the Flyers over the past 3 games.

Poor decision to suspend Giroux. I don't really want to say that Zubrus embellished on that play but he really did. When I first saw the play watching the game live I actually thought that he dived at first. I'll admit the one camera angle is deceiving, but to me this was a interference call, no more. To me it looks like Giroux did not try to make the head principal point of contact, he kept his feet on the ice and attempted to make a shoulder to shoulder hit. I think that players with their head down really need to start taking accountability for some of these hits.

Look at Jeff....still bagging on the Pens and they've been out of the playoffs two weeks. :)

If the Flyers get rolled up in game five, we'll get a good chance to see what kind of team they really are in how they react to that. Just like with the Pens. The real Pens team was the one that lost game six, not the one from game three.

How does the Giroux hit compare to Ovechkin on Girardi in game 4? Consistency, as usual, is questionable. Both were shoulders to the head. Zubrus had ditched the puck well before being hit by Giroux, and Ovechkin intentionally skated right by the damn puck to hit Girardi.



Ovechkin, who has previously been suspended for this exact thing (leaving his skates to hit someone in the head), versus Giroux who is a relatively innocent player. I'm not sure that Ovechkin necessarily deserves a suspension, but I wouldn't scoff at it either. I'd be shocked to see the league do it to him in the playoffs, but then again, Giroux is a big player for the Flyers as well.

Rangers and Caps are going to overtime once again.

I was furious as we were scrambling to get the tying goal in the final minute, one of the Caps players was blatantly covering the puck with his glove for at least 5 seconds and no call. Next play, Ward hi-sticks Hagelin right off the faceoff and gets 4 minutes, and then the Rangers miraculously tie it up with 6 seconds left in the third.

My heart was pounding for a while there. We need to bury it on this PP, although we've been terrible all game (read: season) on the PP. Holtby has been great tonight and stopping everything, although I'll admit we haven't had the best scoring opportunities this game.

Finally Shanny gets a call right. Giroux is a classless ahole, whines more than Crosby, isn't half the player Crosby is, doesn't get pummeled like he does, and should be out at least 2 games. However, there won't be a 6th game, so no biggie.
As for the Kings, show me a cup and I'll take back the choker moniker. Their as bad as the Sharks who have been consistently better than the Kings for years. What is happening for the Kings this year, is they have a great coach who doesn't put up with their prima donna b.s. Richards and Carter have always been two guys you just love to see get hit, like Roenick used to be. One of the best hits ever was when Hatcher broke his jaw back when Hatcher was on the Stars. Finally shut him up. DEVILS WILL WIN A 4th CUP!!!!!!!

I have to say no one is more disappointed in claude and the rest if the Flyers then me. No hustle, no heart, no discipline and no production. I guess they decided to stop playing after the pens series. I love them more then anything but I'm not proud of them right now.

Thanks for joining the NHL thread woodchips. I'm no Flyers fan, but I don't see what you do in Giroux.

Mike Smith is putting a beat down on the Predators. He totally robbed Radulov right there on his porch.
