I get your point....if the team was in a "real" hockey town with "real" fans, people would wear white shirts without having to get them as part of a giveaway.

I just don't think it's worth crying about, or even how you know it's true.

I guess I missed something...what was the purpose of the "White Out"?

My 7-year-old daughter was a little confused about why the Phoenix fans were wearing the same color as the Kings. Honestly, so was I.

The Kings didn't seem to be confused, though. Business was handled appropriately. :hyper:

It's dumb now, since they switched the colors of the home & road teams.

We started the "White Out", but Calgary was actually the first to do that sort of thing. It was the "Sea of Red", probably in '86 when they went to the cup finals. But there were far less people that participated in Calgary than when the Jets fans adopted it. (That's why Winnipeg got the credit for starting it, but we didn't. Calgary did.)

It's not that big a deal, I just thought it was worth commenting to fellow hockey fans that manufactured playoff spirit (for lack of a better term) isn't the same as genuine playoff spirit.

Winnipeg can have credit for creating the white out. Too bad they don't get credit for keeping an NHL team.

It is a bummer about manufacturing the team spirit. I alluded to that in my post the other day how stadiums/arenas are becoming more and more places to do business or be seen with the in crowd. Those type people should stay in the luxury boxes and let the passionate fans sit close to the action instead of in the nose bleed section.

Anyone else keeping up with the IIHF tourney?

My thoughts exactly. And my wife's. We were both laughing at it last night watching the Kings in white in front of that nearly all white crowd.

Then she brought up how she thinks home should wear white and I reminded her they switch this every so many years it seems. I actually prefer the home team wears the colors.

It was probably for the best. It got our rink built (finally) and let's face it: the NHL was a trapped up cesspool in the mid 90's.

I am. We're pwning. That can change quickly at these types of tournaments, however. Knock on wood.

Same here. If the Kings lose, then I'll use my bus pass to hop on the Coyotes bandwagon....well, as long as they give me a free white t-shirt first. :)
