the better team won, yea yea. nonetheless, A GREAT GAME and SERIES. Next year, next year. It'll be interesting to see what happens this offseason with Tuukka and Thomas.

Practically no one picked us to get out of the first round, but Holtby had something to say about that! You see Peverley take a fake swing at him, trying to get him to flinch? Kid's as cool as they come.
Chara and Seidenberg did a great job taking Ovi out of the game; he was a total non-factor. But the Caps third and fourth lines made the difference.
It'll be great to see if they can keep the momentum up in the next round against either the Rangers or the Flyers; I don't think the Caps can mathematically play any of the other teams.

It was great seeing Chara and Ovechkin hug at the beginning of the handshake line; it looks like the both have a lot of respect for each other. And Thomas was classy; seemed like he was looking the Caps in the eye and smiling, like he was genuinely happy for them. At a minimum, he was faking it well, which is all you can ask from a guy who's going home for the summer.

Are you still mad at the Caps because they took the last playoff spot (before moving into 7th) while the Jets crashed and burned at the end of the year?
I didn't get to see the game, but I saw a quick clip of that incident. What provoked it? Just looking at the brief clip (admittedly out of context from the entire game) it looked like a bush-league move by Peverly. Did the kid do something first to cause Peverly to do that?
With that win last night, the Flyers wil face either the Panthers, Devils, Capitals, or Senators next round. Bruins are eliminated and if Rangers win, they'd play the lowest seed and that would be the Capitals. So, no way we have a Flyers/Rangers matchup in second round.

As goalie, and especially as a young inexperienced goalie in your first playoff run, if you don't stand your ground the other team will walk all over you. Stupid move by Peverley, but if the internet didn't exist no one would be talking about what he did. Congrats to the Caps on a well played series.

I had to work and only caught the last 15 minutes of the 3rd and the overtime. The B's had their chances, but either couldn't put their stick on the puck or get it by Holtby who was strong throughout the series.
It was a disappointing end to the B's season, but this team is built to get in the playoffs and be competitive and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
It doesn't get any closer, but you have to give credit to the Caps for regaining their discipline and totally buying into and executing Hunter's system. Speaking of which - is limiting Ovie's time part of the system and is Ovie's fairly obvious pique about that a brilliant smokescreen or is there a little drama over in Caps land?

I'd much rather Thomas get traded in the offseason, so we'd get something for him. But either way Tukkaa should be the #1 next year.
Also, that might have been the last time Kelly played in a B's uniform. He has been great for us. I hope he sticks around.
Just the typical stuff that happens to a guy who camps out in front of the net. He and Carlson were battling for space, and Carlson gave him a shove towards Holtby. Peverley bumped Holtby, and Holtby gave him a pretty unceremonious shove in Peverley's back, which put him on the ice. Peverley got up and thought he'd get something back by seeing Holtby shy away from a stick swing, but Holtby ended up being the one who came away looking tough.
Not a particularly classy move by Peverley, but nowhere near the level of some of the poor conduct we've seen on the ice from a bunch of players and teams so far this playoff season.
I only saw the replay once, but when I saw it, it looked to me like Peverley intended to hack him & came to his senses at the last second.
I'm not aware of any drama on this end. Unlike Boudreau, Hunter has been quite clear that whoever is playing best gets the playing time. I wouldn't say that Ovi played poorly in the series, but Chara and Seidenberg definitely minimized his presence as much as they could; I think Ovi had 2 goals and 3 assists in the 7 games. Since there's no defensive pair in the league like Chara/Seidenberg, I would expect Ovi's numbers and playing time improve in the next round.
Also, look at who did the damage against the Bruins: it was the tough, physical third and fourth lines for the Caps, as opposed to the faster, finesse first and second lines. I haven't seen anything to make me think that Ovi's disappointed in how he's being utilized, although I'm sure he'd like to play 40 minutes a night if he could. I have confidence in him and the rest of the Caps to continue to do what they have to do to play their best hockey against whatever team they face.
Tim Thomas is something of an unusual story, in that his game and his marketability seem to have peaked a bit later in his career. That said, he's definitely still got at least a few years of excellent hockey left in him. With the Bruins still very much a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup for the next few years (unless they blow up their team in the offseason), are you really ready to see them move Thomas?

Don't get me wrong, Thomas is still a very good goalie. But we have Tuukka waiting and waiting. It's been said by the management several times that he is the future goalie. Tuukka would be a #1 on any other team and it's time for the B's to make him one. They'll still compete with Tuukka in net. I believe Tuukka is a free agent this year as well, so they really need to commit to him.
