I have a '49 Ampeg Super 800 Bassamp - and it is gig worthy and awesome with my Tele. Like if it was a Fender, an $8,000.00 amp kinda awesome! But with bass it only has good tone at home practice levels. The later models are more powerful (I think mine is 18 watts) - but like Jimmy said, the B15 is superior for bass amplification.

BA108 is a very underrated little practice amp. For only $100, it's got a sound. I still use mine on the smallest of my small gigs...usually with this little old timey jazz trio I sub with.

I love my little BA108! It just delivers that typical Ampeg sound. I have a Zoom R8 recording studio and it comes with amp models. One of them being, of course, the SVT. Surprisingly, the tiny BA approximates that sound with conviction, albeit, at a moderate volume. Yet, it's still enough to play adequately with a percussionist, piano and guitar.

i play rock music with a passive 4 string. i'm not certain on a head yet. something like the svt cl or v-4b. the new tc electronics head with two tone prints seems cool. i'll look into small affordable amp heads later.

Maybe you Ampeg gurus can help.

my Heritage 810 is farting out. I pulled all the drivers and they are all wired solid and still look brand new. The wiring looks fine to me. Tried different speaker cables and I think the issue is in the rear panel (crossover?). Either speakon gives me the farty static noise in the top pair, but the furthest right 1/4" jack makes the entire cab sound like that. Anyone know where I can get a rear panel for an Ampeg Heritage SVT 810?

There's no crossover in the 810e because they don't have tweeters and there's nothing to cross over. Have you checked the physical connections of the wiring on the rear panel? Sounds like something might have come loose from what you're telling me, but we'd need to know more. Does this happen at any volume or only when you crank it? How big is the power amp you're using and what are your settings? Trying to determine if you have a real problem or you're an amp slammer ;)

BTW, you can always call Ampeg during normal west coast business hours.

Yes, the connections at the rear panel look fine. solid connections and no burn marks anywhere. Tonight I was using an SVT CL and was the first time I've had the issue. Normally I use a 700 watt crown poweramp/RBI setup and never have had the issue. They noise is at any volume.

Settings tonight were fairly flat with the ultra low button pushed in. It wasn't my amp :/

My settings are:
gain: 9 oclock
bass: 11 o 'clock
mid: 3 o'clock
treble: noon
volume to taste normally around 11 oclock

I'm thinking about selling my 70's SVT.. I most likely won't but it's just crapped out on me too many times in the last few months, and I have a feeling I'd regret selling it in the future. Thoughts? I'm only posting here because I don't like starting too many threads.

I don't know what your amp's problems have been - but these days problems with tube amps are so often are related to the quality of tubes available. A certain percentage of new tubes are bad out of the box - and some others just don't last long.

I have found that a good servicing and a good set of tubes goes a long way for reliability.

Unfortunately, one, or both, may not happen on the first try.
