Random (minute) string vibrations that make ugly sick sounding notes. Such as intonation, one of them, you could see it as hair on the strings, but actually simple undesired "u" bends that run along the strings. In oscilloscope waveforms, they are hairy little runners that move along what should be a smooth trace.

High quality guitars do not need much if any improvement.

Maybe this will help, it should be smooth. That's electrical noise, no problem with the amp but I have some undesired sonics in my Lyons LB-40 bass. I can't find another 4 string that I like the neck of, but I am looking casually for a 5 string.

Early Xmas for me! Longtime Ampeg player and it's taken a while to decide if I wanted to swap out the Micro-VR for the PF-20T daisy chained to two SVT210AV's. Really happy I did because I love the vintage look and tone I get out of it. Not sure I ever asked for a number here but I'll take one if they're still being handed out. Happy Holidaze

Your V4 is the wrong faceplate for 72, bro. That was made more like between 74 and 80.

Unfortunately, there's no info from the serial to tell you when they were made. The only way to date them is by pot or transformer codes. But on the bright side, it's still a way fantastic amp no matter what year it was made!

Is this the av212 cab? in the left size?
How does this cab sounds comparing with the classic 810?
Or if you have tried, comparing with a 410he?

I had been trying my new BA-210V2 out since I got it and noticed a funky undesirable midrange sort of reverb to it. I thought maybe not broken in, the LB-40 Bass may have not shown the sound on my low rez DIY amp, or I got played by an especially good one on display. None of those. Sitting next to it is a 10" 3 way stereo speaker and a 5 1/4 inch bookshelf speaker. I started thinking, passive radiator ? Yes pheeeeew that was it. I turned the speakers around backwards and the ugly midrange reverb is gone. And now it has the high rez sound it should have. That's a relief and thought I'd pass it on to be mindful of what sits next to your amp.

The 10" 3 way stereo speaker sits at a 90° angle about a foot out in front. Gets a nice strong wave from the 210. Side by side may not receive nearly as much energy to stimulate the stereo cone into vibration. If interested, set a speaker like that and feel the unconnected speaker vibrate. I've been in a good mood since.

These new JJ KT88's are just killin' it! They sound amazing and what really impresses me is the construction: the glass is thicker, the internal metal parts look beefier - it does weigh more too. Plus they look sexy as hell I am thrilled - now the amp is all JJ

Yes, it's the 212av cab. It's a great sounding cab, it has the same tone and feel as the sealed 810e though the 212 is ported. I've used the 810 and 212 together for practice and it's huge but never for a show yet.

Hi guys,

I've been looking for an svt to pair with my 410hlf for a little while now but have been waiting for the right "deal" (I don't have a lot of disposable income). I found this on my local Craigslist today. I'm just wondering what you guys would be comfortable paying for this amp seeing as how it will probably need to be serviced once I buy it.

I realize it's worth is totally dependent on "what someone will pay" but I was just wondering how much you'd be willing to shell out for this. It does seem to be "vintage" after all.

Bad idea (the repair costs can be $200-$400) - guitar center has an svt-2pro for $700 and 2 svt-cl's for $850 and if you don't like it or something you got 45 days to return it! I got my svt-2pro from them for $850 and it ended up needing new output tubes ($250) and GC paid for them!

Used SVTs in working condition sell for around 1000$ at GC, and that is the asking price on my local Craig's List.

The fact that the output circuitry is working on this amp leads me to think that a repair might be simple, and not too expensive. It might not even need any parts at all, or maybe a low cost preamp tube.

I am not knowledgeable about year and model variations to know if some are more valuable than others. I could do any repairs myself, so I would probably pay that price for it if I really wanted that particular model.

If you buy any older tube amp you are taking a chance that it will need some work sooner or later. If you will gig with a used SVT, you should probably have it gone over before depending on it anyway, so even a working 1000$ amp, (unless it has very low hours, and miles) might need some service to ensure it is gig-worthy.

I think the seller has already discounted the amp somewhat to reflect the less than 100% functionality. I like that the seller disclosed the problem in the ad. It might not hurt to make a slightly lower offer based on the known problem. What about the overall cosmetic condition? I would go look at it with 700$ in one pocket, and two fiftys in another.

HCM - I like your idea. My thought process was the same about the fact that he disclosed the issue up front.
