Can I get in this club?....
Meet old faithful, The B25b I bought second hand around '82, It originally had the matching cab.
I traded away the cab for something about '92 (yeah, I know) cause I never fully warmed to it's tone and kinda hated shlepping it around.
My guitarist found me the ported cab and we mounted a new JBL 15 in it.
About the same time the main tubes in the head were fizzling out, so I swapped them out for sovtecs.
Love this rig....

Interesting gig last night and a first outing for me with the V-4B/2x210AV rig. I threw it all in the trunk as an afterthought, as there was a house rig. We were band 2 of 4 that night, with a grammy winning headliner being the 4th. Turns out that his pre-set gear took up a good bit of the stage, and the house 'rig' (a dreadful, ancient SWR head/410) was on the ground and obscured behind keyboards and bass cabs. As the crappy pic shows, I was able to stack the 2 cabs vertically and have a straight line to monitor things, even without using my any of my official JimmyM Signature Series milk crates (gold flake finish). The sound guy was excellent and he tapped the V-4B DI and miked one of the cabs. Sounded great with my 5 string despite us being pretty loud. The bassist in the band who followed asked if he could use it, so I was able to hear it in the audience. Sounded great. These 210AV cabs constantly surprise me, and are rapidly turning out to be one of the best purchases I've made in a long long time, considering I originally got them solely for low-volume stuff.

Mine is getting better and better, may have settled in. Before break-in it had a bit too much midrange. Not now.
What I'm really liking is the clear distinction between notes, a new thing to me. I had mostly played on stuff I tried to gather up into an amp. My playing has significantly improved because I can now hear what I am doing. And the right notes sounding wrong problem is not there to confuse me either.

Probably passing the wrong harmonics in the stuff not a bass amp being used as one. And I know what they mean by that Ampeg tone too. I like it.
I think I'm a Cave Man for life now.

I have been doing some work on my DIY amp experiments and came to realize how low the noise pickup on this BA210-V2 is. Barely any noise at all but some tweeter noise at very low volume, like below .5 on the volume scale. Never noticeable with about any average room noises. So yes, It is a very quiet amp.

I remember some old amps from the 60's and 70's that had plenty of hum and buzz. Bzzzzzt.

Thought it was about time I took a photo and shared these small Ampeg practice amps of yore. The model 8850 Sound Cube on the right is better known. The model 8851 Buster not so much, and, unusual for a company that could be as original, quirky, and innovative as Ampeg, it's a regrettable rip-off of the famous Pignose, though not built as well. Both amps run on either AC from a built-in line cord or nine-volt battery, have preamp out jacks* on the back, and both have strap buttons so you can jam on the go, presumably using your Stud guitar. I've never opened the Sound Cube to compare, but I would bet money that the actual circuitry is the same on both. The side plates on the Sound Cube are large plastic renditions of Ampeg's then-current amp badge, the grill cloth is the silver/blue then used on the larger amps, while the rest of the box is covered in the finest Magnavox rat fur, grown in Elkhart, Indiana.

*To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever strived for that famous Sound Cube preamp tone. Yet, it was available.

Wall of Ampegs

The amp I was using at the band practice space started acting up last night with all kinds of crackling (it's an Ampeg that the guitarist has at the space), so I'll be bringing a pair of those 2x10's and probably my PF-800, which will live there going forward. I may also start playing a little keys in this band, so the Micro-VR may also move there.
