I have an SVT pro 3 and I run it through either an SVT 112av or a GK neo 212 so either way I'm getting 280watts as both cabs are 8 ohms and at most gigs this is fine but also can quickly run out of headroom. Wondering what the pros and cons would be in running both cabs together to get the load @ 4ohms. Appreciate your thoughts?
You'll have to decide for yourself whether or not it works for you. It might, it might not.

Most folks call it a Magnavox, even though Selmer/Magnavox bought Ampeg in 71 and that style didn't come out till 74
I call it a playable old SVT & cab for $900.
I have an older setup already.
So anyone that wants one, there ya go.
I was born in 74, I don't have any particular inclination to grab a bass made that year or see if the rig dates to my birth year.

Putting this here as the svt 2 thread doesn't seem to get as much attention. So I noticed on my new to me svt2pro the gain light (I am told it means nothing being all tube amp) flashes with the gain at 9 o'clock and any thing higher it can stay lit red... this is with everything flat and a passive jazz/P or Ricky bass. Is this normal and just ingnor it or something up with my pre amp tubes? Also when using the "drive" knob (svt2pro feature only) it doesn't add much dirt as I'm told it would, rather just thin the sound I feel. Any thoughts appreciated. Also, do pre amp tubes glow much? Only one appears to be glowing but it's hard to tell.
Wondering if it's something if I should roll all new pre amp tubes or take it to the tech.

It is possible you could use a new tube or two, but replacing all the pre tubes is a giant crapshoot that may or may not fix the problem.
Maybe I jumped the gun a bit here. I had a great idea... I turned the amp on in the dark and it does appear all pre amp tubes are in fact lighting up...few. I guess I'll ignore that little red light on the gain side as everything seems to be working to best my knowledge. I still can't believe how much shear power this head has!
Doesn't the gain light indicate clipping of the signal? I don't have a 2, mine is a 6 pro but I keep the gain knob so that it only blinks a bit if I am really digging in.
Yes, your correct. I did read somewhere can't remember where.... to ignore the gain peak light on tube amps as it doesn't really pertain to tube amps. I'm not sure if that's true but the svt2pro is the only svt with a gain peak light, all other svt, v4b or other Ampeg all tube amps don't have a peak light.
Yes, your correct. I ment to say the svt2pro is the only Ampeg all tube amp that has a gain peak light, the 4 pro is hybrid.
The guy finally got back to me...
I asked him a chain of questions. The amp has a crackle once it's on for 30-60 min. It's there but then goes away... I'm not sure what that means. One of the speakers has been replaced. He's had the amp for a long time but never changed the tubes. It's a great deal but not sure I'm willing to take on an amp that needs tubes $$$
I've had various Ampeg gear over the years, but here's my current rig:
It's a V4B Classic, sitting on top of a US-made 610HLF. I'm just waiting for someone to start re-stocking the silver/blue grill cloth so I can match the 610 to the V4B. I had a V4B a while back, and I sold it for something I felt was better at the time. What a mistake that was. I love how the V4B sounds, warm, punchy, and easy to dial in a great sound. Want a little grit? Play with the Master/Gain settings to dirty up the sound to your hearts content. I also love how the 610 sounds with it. I know that the US made cabs and the 610 in general are "love-it or hate-it", but I love it. Mine is loud, but I have no problem hearing the high notes. It is a little heavy, but the towel bar and casters make it manageable.

Hey Tbone, I also have a US made 610hlf which didn't really pair well with a 70's SVT head. But it's great with my 100 watt V4BH head. I'd love to try a V4B sometime!
And yes, I did make a new silver/blue grill to go with the SVT.
