I am using the Ampeg in mono bridged mode, into the Barefaced 2x12 and kinda underwhelmed by how loud it is.
Question:
With the gain led clipping sometimes (when slapping the lower strings) on both the Hexa Valve and the SVT-4 Pro, the Hexa is louder with the volume at 9 o' clock then the Ampeg is with the volume at 2 o' clock. Is this normal?
The Ampeg will likely have to operate with its volume nearly all the way up with the band I'm afraid, unless I will have the gain clipping led pretty much permanently on. Is this normal for an SVT-4 pro?
Edit: could it be the volume pot on the Hexa Valve is linear and the one on the SVT-4 Pro is log? That would explain it. Or maybe the clipping led on the SVT-4 is just being a bit over enthousiastic and I can ignore it lighting up?

I did some testing and the gain led on this amp should be pretty much lit all the time. Input sounds distored with the gain all the way up but is clean with gain at 3 o' clock and the led flashing constantly. It even flashes with the gain at 0 when hitting a low B string hard.
This led is effing useless as is. I will open the amp up later this week and see if someone maybe threw a wrong pre-amp tube in there. They should all be 12AX7 right? Maybe someone threw in a 12AU7 or something.

Sorry I'm not much help in the solution, but I do know there's been a few threads of the Pro with similar issues
Thanks anyway! I have compared the two amps extensively for an hour and a half just now and with the gain led blinking "too much" according to the manual the amp is very loud and very articulate. I am quite sure the led is overreacting to any incoming signal and that is the only problem.
My guitarist and me have been switching between the full tube Trace Elliot and the 4 Pro using different basses and different cabs. The Ampeg sounds REALLY good. The Trace Elliot is a tiny little less articulate but has more texture in the mids it seems where the Ampeg is tighter but still warm and gritty. We added the TC Electronic to the comparison but that one is no match tone wise with either of the other amps. Where the TC shines is its utility value. It has comp, semi-tube grit, a built in tuner, three selectable presets and its is tiny plus lightweight - a different amp for a different purpose.
But long story short I am REALLY happy with the SVT-4 Pro. Awesome amp, even more so then expected and really versatile too. This one is a keeper.
Hey guys, maybe about to buy my fist tube amp and it's effectively a SVT-CL clone. Sorry if this is a silly question but I was curious if the "preamp out" and "power amp in" jacks can act as an effects loop? I read the owners manual from the ampeg site and it seems that this may be the case, but I'd like to hear it in simple English (as opposed to amp jargon) just to be sure.
It would work but depends on the effects you are using. Some require higher signal levels. Most prefer to plug effects into the input of the amp.
Interesting. Say that I were to try a pedal that wouldn't work, would there be a possibility of any electronics getting damaged either in the amp or the pedals?

You won't damage the amp. If the signal is too hot for the pedal input, you'll hear it heavily distort and know to back the level down. Start with the master turned down when feeding a pedal from the pre-out.
Floor pedals typically require an instrument level signal. Rack mounted effects often require a high signal level, called line level. Some rack equipment allows you to select line level or instrument level. There are two types of audio line levels, consumer which is lower, and professional which is higher. The pre-out on the CL is not at a professional line level.
So my 810 is still in California, but I'm in North Carolina. I plan to pick it up sometime in the spring. However, today, I happened to see a 212AV at a great price (with free shipping). I've played a couple in Guitar Center and loved them. So you know I had to spring for one. This will give me a transportable cab that's still plenty loud. The 810 can be purely for home use.
Stoked enough that I couldn't wait for its arrival to make a post about it. Should pair awesomely with my PF-50T. Goal is still to get an SVT-CL and a V-4B eventually.

Although I've owned a few Ampeg preamps (1 SVPCL, 2 SVP-PROs and 1 SCR-DI) I've never owned an Ampeg Amp. I'm now the proud owner of an Ampeg SVP-6 PRO and an Ampeg 6x10 classic.
Last night was my first time using it in a band situation at volume.
This amp is killer.
I'm not a huge fan of the parametric EQ but understand it enough to figure it out.
Anyway, there was 1 guitarist with a JCM 900 and a 4x12 cab, 1 with a very loud Mesa 2x12 combo and a hard hitting drummer. I never got my Amp up to 3 on the master before I was asked to turn down. The sound was awesome! I'm very happy with this purchase. (1k usd for the whole rig in pristine shape including a rack mount tuner and cover for the 6x10 cab).
I don't have enough good things to say about this amp for sure!

My current Ampeg rig. I use the 2 pro/810 as much as I can. The 7 pro is a backup or used in situations where I need to go direct without the cab. I had been downsizing over the years and was just been playing a pedalboard rig (HX Stomp into a REDDI), but it just doesn't get much better than standing in front of that 810 with the 2 pro hooked up to it!
Your Amp section is nearly identical to mine! Same head, different tuner and power conditioner. I don't have an Ampeg cab. Used to have 2 Mesa 410's but sold one of them after the "band broke up."
Pics of it should be in this thread somewhere but the interface for adding a pic from here is too much of a PITA.
Anyway it is a beast! Loud, proud and sounds great!
I've been debating the BA210, Rocketbass 210, or the Micro-VR. Cost not really being an issue, I have no way of hearing them in person side by side. I'd be really curious to see how they compare in a band setting. Good purchase though!
My BA 115 v2 came in today. A 115 ampeg combo always sounds so sweet with a Fender P bass.
