I am having a problem. I have both a Portaflex 210, and a BA-108. On both amps, the covering is beginning to peal away. On the BA-108 it is beginning to curl, (I have had this amp for a year), and on the Portaflex it is just barely beginning to show wood at the diagonal seams on the top, (i have owned this one for only a month).

Does anyone know why this would be happening? I love in Colorado which is a very dry state. I keep artificial humidity running constantly rich keeps the RH between 30 and 45. And the temp is steady between 72 and 78. Any ideas?

Greetings Ampeg fans, no number needed here. Glad this new thread was started up, my top pic was posted somewhere in the last thread, but here it is again.
L to R, '77 SVT head I bought in '82, the '77 cab I found last summer. Still running Westinghouse 6550's from 1988.
'06 V4BH I picked up with an svt15e cab, then got another cab. The 100 watt head works great with the 610 also. Will be re-power tubing soon.
'69 B25b my first real amp. My folks got me this in '76. Replacing the power supply caps on this now. Sounds soo sweet!
Svt610hlf nicely pairs up with either the V4bh or the solid state unit on top. (Yea GK I know, but it's a really decent back-up head and it does a satisfyingly tubey growl, almost like the Ampegs.)

And lastly, in my lower photo, the latest addition just picked up a month ago, the '00 B100R. Really like the sound of this combo solid state. Very much like the B25 in fact.

I like the 800rb an awful lot, and I often use it with the SVT 610 cab, so there you go! It was state of the art when I got it. Now it's my "go to" head when it gets real cold out and I'd rather leave the tubes safe and warm at home. Also it comes with me on most gigs just in case of a failure, never needed it yet but...standing on end in it's case, it also makes a good drink table at gigs. And another thing I like is I can get close to the sound I like from my Ampegs. Now I have my B100R and that's a pretty handy little amp also, but not as versatile as the 800rb.

The Ampeg tone is killing my wallet now. I just found an old SVTIII Non Pro in the local lit of Craig for $350. I don't need it, but it is tempting. I also own another non Ampeg head that I also am obsessed over so the SVTIII would be overkill right now.

Above I noted I was replacing the electrolytic filter caps in the '69 B25, and I thought some pics might be interesting. Any amp of this age is a candidate for cap replacement and mine did exhibit some occasional pop sounds. But this came about because an axial lead broke off of one of the "dynamite sticks" as I was fumbling with screen resistors as part of a 7027 power tube replacement. I ordered the filter cap kit from fliptops, it replaces the two 30uf/600v axial caps, the 40x40/500v can cap and one 100uf/100v axial cap in the biasing circuit.

The '69 B25, and a shot of the new 3 watt/470ohm screen resistors on the power tube sockets. Plate voltage 535, Screens 530v.

Before the filter cap replacement. Notice the (oops!) + lead missing from the large 30/600 "dynamite stick" cap. Several components were grounded to the lugs of the suspended can cap (black wires), which had to be moved to a new anchor point.

And the new, physically smaller caps occupying the unused corner space, with clamps fixed to a transformer screw. Grounds anchored to an unused (isolated) chassis lug for convenience, because the new can (50x50/500v) has only the one minus terminal.

Be aware of the high voltages in here and if your not sure of yourself, stay out. Hope you found this interesting, let me know what you think.

I got a bit confused with the Portaflex thread merger, and just discovered this is where I applied for a membership a while back. (I´we already got a number #1018)

Anyhow, posting these here as well. Just got a second cab. A case where 2 + 2 is a LOT more than 4 Sweet modular rig for band, recording and home use. Great classic tones fro my J and P basses
I´ll consider heavier gear if somebody will ever start to pay to hear me play. But I don´t think Ill have to

Good for you, AndreasK! That second cab really ads bottom to the stack.
The only heavier upgrade you could consider in future is a PF500 or V4B head.
But I'm sure the PF350 is more than sufficient for now.

But please don´t tempt me too much with the V4B. I spend a lot of time and effort, trying to get my PF350 to sound like an all tube head So far with a combination of a VT bass and a Joyo American. A Barbershop is on my gas list...

For those of you having played the cabs with both the V4B and the PF350. How do they compare? Sound and volume wise. I know the lower wattage of the V4B should n´t make too much of a difference. But still 100 vs 350?

Well AndreasK, I have some good news for you. Or, in fact Ampeg has. They themselves compared the sound of an all tube SVT to the portaflex series heads.

My 94 SVT III pre pro. Original owner. Started it's life in a racked back to back 15"(2) Ampeg cab. I cant remember the model. A beast at over 100lbs. But what a sound. Sold the cab and she powered a 4-10 box for a few years. Now she has a few new friends. A pair of EA VL 110's (not shown) and this (new to me) pair of Bergantino's. A HT 112 and a EX 112. She even sounds wonderful with a single VL110. I have a little Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 that I use a lot but I love this old girl. I know her and she knows me. Does this qualify for a #?
