The official Ampeg V-4BH thread

I LOVE my Ampeg V4BH.

Sold my last one. Wont make that mistake again.
LOL, and now you have it up for sale. Man, I don't think I could ever flip gear like that, it would drive me nuts.

Anywho the cab is a bit unweildy (200lb, bigger than me, etc.) so I'm looking for something a bit more managable. What would you guys recommend? Thanks guys, have a great day!

-Joe P.
OK, this is based purely on the recommendations of others--I don't own the head, nor have I tried it--but by many accounts, the last two cabs on this page are half the weight, nearly as loud, and sound much better:

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Actually I have another question: What tubes do you guys use? I'm pretty sure mine still has the tubes that were placed in it new in Nov. 1996. Any recommendations? I was thinking maybe JJ's and a nice servicing. Thanks again!

Adding to an old thread here. I just picked up a V4BH (finally) and have been looking through all of the threads. A few questions.

"This is marked as a V4-B from the "Classic Series". When they first came out with these in the "Classic Series" with the blue and orange lettering they called it the V4-B reissue IIRC. If Im not mistaken there is no difference in this amp and what is now is called and badged a V4BH." (this quote came from the megathread)

Is the above statement true. I ask B/C the seller listed it as 130 watts. I had always beleived they were all 100W. Is this an honest mistake or is it hotter than the newer V4BH's.

Also is the head the same size as an SVT-CL or is it wider like the old V4's?

Thanks Much

Sounds like the seller is referring to the v4's which are older than that series. The one you describe would be 100 watts (I have a B2 which is now the B2R from that series). It also is the same size as an SVT-CL.

Hi !

Ampeg V4BH with Electric 2x15.
Sounds great, I play in heavy rock n' roll trio (Mudhoney like), and never had power issues ...
Aguilar Tone Hammer helps sculpting tone and adds nice overdrive !

Here is mine. Waiting on an Avatar 2X12" DeltaLF in orange (8ohm). I imagine I'll add an orang Avatar 2X10 Neo at some point. Loving the tone through my bassbomb (which I just sold to fund the orange Avatar 2X12).

I have an Ampeg Porta Bass series 2 x 12 box 4 ohms, and would like to get a V4BH that is for sale to use with it for smaller gigs.
I'm wondering if it would be loud enough for say a room of 100 people? Instead of carting my SVT-II around.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I've never played the V4BH but I have gigged with the V4b and a 1x15 cabinet. The answer, IMO, depends on what kind of music you play and how reasonable your bandmates are. Here is a link to a very short video of our band playing a high school reunion a few years ago.

How does V4BH sound thru svt-810e, has anyone played this combination?

I now have a svt-410hlf and a DIY 1x15 cabinets (both ported) and in some (bad) rooms it`s really hard to control the low end whatever cab I use. Some notes become massivelly boomy (especially E note on A string). Has anyone experienced same problem?
Thru my ashdown abm 500 with same cabs this problem disappears..

Otherwise I really like my V4BH
