The official Ampeg V-4BH thread

Effectively spending lots of money on an awesome amp only to give the crowd none of it. I don't understand why people do this.

Mic'ing is certainly the preferred option, but most soundmen are not willing to mic a bass amp. I can count the times my bass cab has been mic'd on one hand. I usually get the 'we don't have the board setup for that,' 'don't have enough mics,' 'I don't like to do that...a DI works better,' etc.

Like it or not, DI is the standard

So many V4B users play through the 115, my question is anyone use it with the SVT215E, thats what i am planning on doing, what can i expect?

I've played my V4BH through a Bergantino 2x15. ( It sounded great)

Also, Fliptops, or Dr, Bass will make a 2x15 cab.

I use a 1x15 made by Fliptops. ( it's bigger than the Ampeg 1x15)
The same size as the 4x14 cab. ( Louder than the Ampeg)

But gassing for either a 2x15 or 6x10 for more volume, and headroom.

i am brand new to this V4BH amp. so new as a matter of fact i don't even have it yet although my intentions are to run it through my SVT215E. the only thing and i mean only thing that concerns me is aobut 50% of the V4B users claim underpower concerns, while the of 50% state the opposite. i am going from a GK1001rb to this head and am totally hyped for that classic tube sound but a little skeptical about the volume.

With the 215 config should have no issues.

As long as your guitar player(s) are not ego-maniacs who need to have a ripping loud stage volume, you will be all set with the V4BH. I find myself using the V4BH more often than my SVT-CL simply because the output is more manageable.

I'm very fortunate to play with guys that don't have volume problems. We had practice yesterday and again I marveled all throughout the rehearsal just how much I was enjoying that sound. I don't know how to describe it other than deep and very sweet. I'm extremely pleased with it.

it seems so strange to me that one would use the v4b rather than an svt cl

Only if you think that the SVT and the V4B sound the same. But to my ears, the V4B has a softer sweeter sound than what I recall of the SVT. But even if they do sound the same perhaps one might choose the VB when its a lower volume gig and you still want to dial in some distortion.

Bingo. I prefer tube amps when they are running pretty hard...not all out grind, but I do like some hair on the tone. With the V4BH you don't have to go deaf getting that tone.

+1 the V4BH has a good DI out on it too, so getting a great sound to FOH is easy. Thru a NV610 or NV215 & I suppose a SVT215 or any efficient cab with plenty of cone area to move lotsa air-the V4BH will be loud enough as long as guitardists aint cranking 100w MArshalls etc....even then it'd go close IME.
Ive never had a prob. with onstage sound outta the V4BH thru a good sized cab/s
