What is your diet like?

Probably cut down a bit on the fats, white carbs and sugars. (well, thats what I need to cut down on :p)

And if you wanted to get huge you would need to put some serious planning into it. Lifting weights to stay in shape, for weightlifting and (generally) for powerlifting, you won't get huge. You'd only really get huge if you went out of the way to do bodybuilding :)

First time I went to the gym was August 08, signed up because I wanted to regain a bit of stamina and strength from a 2 month break of martial arts class. Resumed martial arts class a month later and I ended up with appendicitis 3 weeks later. Lost 10 pounds and couldn't do any sports for 1.5 months :/.

I got back to martial art class in November and I signed up for gym a week ago. I broke my toe during martial art class (teep kick gone wrong :/). I'll be out for 2-3 weeks now. Gah, this always happens -___-.

I've got a world tournament to train for too argh >.>.

looking to get back in shape (used to play soccer) but don't know where to start, any suggestions?

Well it depends what you mean by getting into shape. If you mean more strength then get some free weights and head over to www.stronglifts.com

If its muscle you want then try Invalid Link Removed there are a few beginner routines on there.

Or if you want to loose fat then just do something like running which you will be used to from football.
Whatever you do you need to look at your diet, if you want to gain muscle or strength you need 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight and about 500 cals over your maintenance or if you want to loose fat you need 300-500 cals below your maintenance.

For running, try and find a website called cool running. Their couch to 5k running plan is excellent.

Hope this helped.

It sure did, what I want to do is lose some weight and get fit, I've gained about 20lbs in the last year, I don't look that heavy but I feel it, planning to play football again next year, I miss it :(

Well it will definitely help to play again. But in the meantime you could try running, it will make it easier to get back into football too :)

If you don't want a complicated running plan like on cool running just try something like: 10 mins running 3 times a week, with at least 48 hours inbetween each run say, monday, wednesday, friday. And add 1 min each time you run, up to about 30 mins. And make sure you get some carbs and protein after you run, thats if you don't want to change your diet dramatically :)

I meant to get back in to running but i left all my running gear at home and i am away for a month :(

I'm bumping this thread to report I did my first gym session in three or four weeks today, because of the holidays and a severe case of flu. It's starting to be all better, now!

The autumn was a bit broken season for me, so I thought to make it up for myself by putting the gym first for the spring. I thought to do three months of gym 3-4 times per week, with a two-day split, and then start adding more cardio towards the summer to cut a few pounds. I'm not sure if I plan to take part in any running events at the end of summer, but I'm open for the possibility.

Sounds good mate :)

Im trying to cut some of my extra weight (damn you christmas!).

Sadly, things ain't going too well. Was helping my folks clear out the garage (when they moved house, we didnt have the removal van for long so loads of stuff just got ditched into the garage (big garage, its a double, but huge, about 2-3 times bigger than the place im renting right now :( ). While moving stuff about managed to move something the wrong way and have done in one of the tendons in my right arm. I can barely write, let alone lift right now :bawl:

:( I hate injuries/getting sick, just eat a lot of super healthy food and rest up, you'll be back in no time.

Did my first session with the university wrestling team last week, got there and hour and a half early, ended up "killing time" with working out and it turned into a normal session by the end. Was super dead at the end, sore for days and a bit CNS overtrained, went for a run on Thursday night and got sick. Been eating well and getting tons of sleep, feeling good today and if I stay on top of my **** I should be fine for weeks.

Hit a clean and jerk PR a couple weeks ago -- 70kg, hadn't hit that since I wrenched it off the ground with horrible technique when I weighed 80kg, this time weighing about 69kg. My strength sessions have to drop off a bit in volume due to starting wrestling so I'm going to start snatching again, stopped ages ago due to shoulder impingement and rotator problems but those haven't been issues for some time.

Chillin' at around 72-73kg BW right now, have gradually gotten leaner and am probably around the same lean bodyweight I was at in March when I weighed 81kg. Interesting note -- I discovered I retain very little water, would like to get to around 77kg and just chill there, I want to wrestle at 67kg.

Well....took a week off because I had my wisdoms extracted. I wasn't really motivated while hopped up on percocet and eating the equivalent of baby food all week. They had to drill one out, so my mouth was a mess with stitches.

Anyway, I had back and shoulder day yesterday. While I generally change up my routine week to week, occassionally I forget about exercises that I should be doing. I did chins for the first time in ages and damn I am sore today. Funny how hitting your muscles at a different angle has such an effect.

So how is everyone else getting along at their gyms? I really hate January as the gym attendance goes up when the New Year Resolutionists take over. Usually around mid-February, everything returns to normal....LOL. I just wish they were taught "some" gym ettiquette before they were let loose.
