The Official Hagstrom Bass Club

Use to have one like this in red. Beautiful, but the sound was bad ...

Love my Hagstrom Viking — especially the the neck. A singer/guitarist/friend I’m playing with encouraged me to buy a semi-hollow bass; said we needed something “wicked warm sounding”. The Viking can do that and more.

Funny story. One of the fake pole pieces fell off. I emailed Hagstrom and they mailed me a whole new pickup! Thank you Andrea!

My '67 Hag II that I bought new and modified back in the late 60's or early 70's with 2 mudbuckers. The sound of the 2 mudbuckers is totally powerful and amazing. By having one at the bridge and mixing in just a bit of the neck pup their is a fantastic deep growl. The centered stock pup gives a very P like sound. The roundwound strings are still on from the 70's and I am scared to change them - the sound is too good. The neck is still the best and fastest neck I have ever experienced and so easy to play.

I also scored an identical mint '68 (with original case!) earlier this year to have one that is stock. I figure at some point I won't be able to handle the long scale any more and will go back to these great shorties.

I had a similar Hagstrom that I put a mudbucker in the neck position. When blended with the bridge it sounded great.

Hi all,
I’m selling my 1964 Hagström I B… haven’t had it that long, so I really don’t know too much about it. Everything works as it should except the volume control which has a lot of static noise to it when you turn it. The bass is in good condition for the age of it, with a few dings and scratches. There are a couple of small cracks in the paint in the back of it, nothing structural. The finish on the back of the neck is coming off, especially up towards the headstock, and the fretboard could use a good oiling. Comes with what I believe is an original case. The hinges of the case needs to be riveted back together…
I’d be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability:) DM me for pics, if interested!
I’m located outside of Asheville, NC.
Thanks!

@pantweller, I am interested in the Viking. If it's not inconvenient, would you mind measuring the width, across the body of bass at the widest part? It looks like it's maybe 14" or 15" wide. And did you buy a case or gig bag for it?
