The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Just picked this one up last week off ebay. Was really just looking for a cheap old beater to mess around with. I was honestly expecting a beat up, old, piece of crap bass but this thing is a sweet player! The neck is really comfortable and it gets a really nice P bass tone. Been playing it non stop since it arrived and I am truly enjoying it. It even feels better than the Fender American standard P I played at guitar center. Im sure it was because it was set up like crap. Anyway here are some bad pics.

Wow, so to semi-necro post as a zombie, (it's been over a year since I last logged in!)
I have to say that I am amazed that this thread is still going! Glad to see that people are still enjoying these basses! I kinda let my playing fall by the wayside, put my hobby time into my vintage computer collection instead.
So perhaps after this current afghan trip, I will dust off the Genz and my pile of basses, and start making my fingers bleed once more.
Anyway, just wanted to say,
Keep up the Hondo love!

Ok. I've read all 15 pages, and no one has a hondo like mine -- so here it is:
A Hondo Alien short scale. These were a clone of the Kramer 'the Duke' basses. It's an aluminum neck with no truss rod. It sounds a bit 'thin' so I'm considering pickup options -- not a simple process, since the pickup seems to be a doubled up jazz pickup.
Anyhow, is some one still handing out numbers to the cult? If so, I would like one!

I have a Hondo P-bass, similar to the one in sunburst from a page or two back. I'll be posting pics so i can officially join the proud owner's club, but for now -
i would really be grateful if someone told me the neck radius on basses like this one... I have a nut issue (its old, misaligned, and pretty worn out), so i would like to change it, but i have no idea about the radius of the neck, and thus have no idea which nut would fit ...

Thanks in advance for any helpful info :)

Anybody know what this model is called? I just picked up one of these recently and am looking for more info. Most pics I can find online are for the single P-pickup version, but I like the dual pups (Dimarzios I hear, but haven't checked mine)

I would really like to know as well. I painted my pup covers then later swapped the bridge for emgs. The emgs alone a real weak, good for quiet parts. The d' Marzio is real punchy and hot. Together really smooth. It's a heavy bass so the sustain kills anybody especially with the XL chrome flatwounds I'm running but no fret noise. Sick ass butter but heavy. P style neck. I think of it as a kind of 83 fender elite II with a double cut away LP style.

It was a standard long scale (i can't remember, 32? 33?). My only compaint about it was the ergonomics -- insane weight and the crazy amount of neck dive. It sounded pretty good, great sustain, a little weak sounding on the d string right around the 7th or 8th fret (nothing that anyone else noticed). Nice slim, fast neck.
Like most basses I've sold, I regret selling it...
