The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Cool. I got that one in California, for $50 off of Craigslist IIRC. Had it the same time as a Ritter.

Really surprised that picture is still active...left that band seven years ago!

Here we have one of those little things that help sink a ship.
My P-bass copy was made somewhere in the final couple of years in the Hondo saga.

When the pickups were drilled in, it was done a bit askew....As a result the pick guard sits just off center, as seen here, the neck pocket area isn't flush with the edges of the neck.

From a distance, you can see the edge of the guard behind the pups in out of alignment with the edge of the bridge, near by.And the knob section is closer to the edge of the body than it should be.

Still,...It's my first. And the one that brought to life the bassist in me...Gratefully.

Hello. My name is Dan and I live in Sydney. I love hondos (although not enough to photograph them individually...) and have always struck it lucky regarding straight necks and international shipping. The two in the middle are the only non-hondos (although the one on the middle-right is a 30 inch scale baritone guitar) Fricken awesome to find this thread and cheers to all for posting and more pics please!

Anybody ever heard of Rendano? That was my first. It was made out of plywood. I could play a major scale up, and when I came down the root note would be flat from where I'd just started. Every time. Another guy was listening once, screwed up his face and wondered out loud why the hell it kept doing that...

Hondo may as well have been an Alembic by comparison. I'd have KILLED for one. Wound up with an Aria instead, though.

Great thread, joining the club!

This past weekend I was up in Poughkeepsie with my wife and pup and happened to snatch up a Hondo h815 at a flea market for $70. I've always wanted a white/black pg bass, and when this guy caught my eye I knew I wasn't going to leave without it. I've owned a few Fenders, an Epi and lately Warwicks, but this is my first P style bass and I absolutely love it. Super tiny, amazingly fun to play, light as heck and it sounds great!

Pic attached with my monstrous 34" scale 5er adjacent for comparison ;)

To help my son learn the bass, I picked this up as using my fiver was messing him up a bit (he has his own axe):

A Deluxe Series 880. It was collecting dust at a local shop but did clean up nicely. It surprised me; the fretboard has a little figuring in it, the body wood looks nice, and the tone is excellent - I was even going to use in the band I'm in (for drop-D stuff).

Then I found an old Aria and don't need an extra four string, so it's going up on CL. A shame though, it's a good playing, great sounding bass.

Hey everyone I'm new here. Almost a year ago my dad's friend gave me his Hondo P-Bass copy. It's my first bass guitar (I have two electric guitars) and I'm not too sure about the details of it. It looks different than all the hondo basses i've seen, as it does not have a pick guard and the headstock is different. The serial # is 880 803839 on the headstock and on the base of the neck there is a sticker that says H8200BK. Can anyone tell me about my bass? Thanks.

Sorry guys, I tried to upload the pictures of the bass (when i clicked 'Insert Image' I gave the link to my photobucket account) but it didn't seem to work. How do you upload photos so you can directly see them on the forum? Sorry again.

any have experience with the tokai made hondo three point bridges? im looking to get a replacement and im pretty sure a hipshot supertone will fit it but i wanted a second opinion.
btw i have a 1980 tokai hondo pro II double P bass.

The 3-point bridge on my Hondo II Pro has metric threads so you should check the compatibility with the Hipshot bridge. I don't know how the hole spacing measures up but I suspect those measurements are metric also.

There are probably instructions in the sticky links, but all you have to do is copy the link in Photobucket and paste it into the post.

That's funny to see your guitar room with a bookshelf full of guitar books, Mopar books and basses hanging around.

My bass room has a similar "Cars and Guitars" theme. I have the hood of Cruz Pedregon's old McDonald's funny car hanging up at one end of the room.
