Ok, so I was playing my Jake today and found the tone knob pulls out? But it's passive? I plugged it in to see if I could figure it out, no luck. What is the push-pull function?
Maybe it splits the humbucker? Or is there a switch for that purpose (can't see it so well on the tort)? Any difference in sound?
Probably taps the humbucker to switch from a P/J bass to a P & humbucker.
Smart idea. Should be a much more popular config.
Ok, you guys are right!! Thanks! Just played it with the rear pickup soloed, definitely splits when the knob is pulled.
My Jake has a three way switch that sets the humbucker series, parallel or single coil. A very nice feature.

Magnificent bass man! Pretty interesting the picture you've been sent show the bass without string retainer on the headstock. And the bass you received has one... not an issue but... worth mentionning cause the same happened to me. Not sure why they add one after the sofa shot....
Is that a Delano PC5 Pickup and a 17mm bridge? Could you give us some feedback when you have a few minutes to spare? (i've been thinking ordering a passive 5 string as well...)

In fact the same thing with the string retainer also happened with my Elwood. I suppose that Adrian installs the retainer when doing the setup before shipping. Actually I don't mind too much...
Correct - the pickup is a Delano PC 5 HE and string spacing is 17 mm.
Didn't yet play enough to judge the pickup - the first impression I got when playing at home at moderate volume was a warm and punchy sound. Compared to the XTender Splitcoils I have in two other basses I had the feeling, that the PC 5 has a slightly higher output.
I can tell more after the band rehearsal next week.
The plan is to have the Jake as my main bass - I mean for a rock band one good bass sound should be enough

I would love to be able to give you a recommendation but this question is really difficult to answer.
I would propose to get in touch with Adrian - I think the chance that he tried all of the pickups is higher than with every other user here

sad truth is there's no "best" because it's about sound perception. I would only recommend listening to Adrian's demos or mine for example and see what vibe you like or don't really. I , for example , absolutely love anything by Aguilar or Delano.... Bassculture seems to be great too (from what I have tried).... however might not be every one's taste...
we just did a 32 inch Elwood with Aguilar 60's style that was absolutely killing

It is easy to find single coils jazz bass pickup's vidéos, but it's quite difficult to find videos with hum cancelling pickups ( as they often are split coils , not exactly the same sound as their single coil version )
here a good souding Sanberg with Delano jc4 al /m2.
