To you Jake owners - does the body seem slightly smaller and/or thinner front to back than a Fender P? I actually find it more aesthetically pleasing (in photos at least) than a fender. Less bulky I guess? And the pickguard looks less pointy, which is nice.

Is that a Delano PC5 Pickup and a 17mm bridge? Could you give us some feedback when you have a few minutes to spare? (i've been thinking ordering a passive 5 string as well...)

So after first band rehearsal with my new Jake here is my impression about the Delano PC5. To make a long story short - this pick-up really kicks a**.
I really love the XTenders in my Cazpar and Elwood but when it comes to output, bottom and transparent sound I've never heard A comparable split-coil. My band colleagues were quite impressed which powerful sound the new bass delivers.
Additionally this pick up is extremely quiet (comparable to the XTender Humbucker) even in difficult surrounding - you have to know that our rehearsal room is located next to a railway line which causes plenty if interferences. In this surrounding even the XTender split-coil shows some humming - the PC5 does not...

I'm considering doing a Jake 4P (maybe the basement version that looks like a '54 Fender). Do you know how much your bass ended up weighing? Are you still able to have the tummy cut and forearm contours with the chambers in the body?

just sold a 55 basement that was 3,5 kilo. (around that)

I'm not sure how much it weighs but it's light as a feather. Almost disconcertingly so! Lightest bass I've ever held. Lighter than most guitars. Contours not an issue.

A couple questions for the Maruszczyk experts in this thread, as I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger and bother Mr. Maruszczyk directly just yet. And apologies if these have been asked & answered already, I haven't been able to dig through the entire thread... yet!
1) Has anyone here had any direct A/B experience between the Bass Culture 38s and 48s, and could you describe how similar/different they are?
2) Can anyone fill me in as to whether Adrian's "matte" finish is a spray satin, or is something like tung oil an option? Probably something that can be discussed when ordering?
3) I'm seeing differences in the upper horn of the Frog... Some look like they have more of an almost squared edge like a P Bass, and some have much more body wood showing around the edges. Does anyone know about that? (I would imagine it's something to do with body sculpting and could also be discussed with Adrian when ordering? I like the edges on the left one here much better.)

Greetings and welcome! You will not regret having found your way to Maruszczyk and this club.

The input I can give regarding your questions is this.

1. I do not have any experience with these pickups.
2. Looking at my Elwood L walnut, I believe you are correct. As nearly everything is possible, I assume that tung oil would be possible. Best way to find out is to ask Adrian.
3. Are you also referring to the shape of the upper horn? This might just be the picture, as I assume all Frogs should have the same shape. The amount of body wood showing might depend on the top wood... Again , ask Adrian.

Okay, I guess I can't really answer your questions... Maybe you can still give me some credit for trying.

Hi mate,

- Please find the video of my own frog , it's got 48hb.

-my frog 6 has 38HB... i will update when we do a video.
-not sure what tung oil is , however i've never seen anything but satin , gloss or nitro. So as far as i'm aware that's it. Quick email to the boss will tell you.
- all Frog Omega are same shape. Again ... quick email with boss will tell you.

Thanks for the video Pierre! That bass sounds great, and Bo is a killer player... I've enjoyed her work in other BassFreaks videos as well. I'll definitely watch for a video of the Frog 6. I really dig the Bass Culture 48s I've seen in other videos (and the 38s as well), I was just curious if anyone here has direct experience with both. Again, probably worth an email directly to Adrian!

Unfortunately, the only finishes available for custom builds are matte, gloss or nitro if I am not mistaken. I opted for the spray on matte finished with my build.

Like I said ... Both my Frog's have 38HB and 48HB. They're both absolutely amazing. However describing sounds is impossible as my "fat" will be your "meh" or vice versa. However I possibly prefer a bit the 38HB they're a bit "softer" ..

You should email Adrian, he's surely got a video of 38HB so you can listen for yourself. All this vidéos (and my ones) are done with no sound processing. What you hear is what you get.

I'm pretty sure the Frog Omega are all the same shape and those pictures are only visual illusion.
finish wise i don't think oil is possible.

However, yes ... he will tell you for sure.

I think it depends on what you want, I, for instance have a Fretless Elwood which is a passive jazz and the sound is what you would expect of such combination.

My elwood Hellwood 5a sounds so sweet in passive. It can push plenty of lows.
Active can get a nice tight slap tone.

I think it is difficult to demonstrate all shades of a bass in a YouTube video, just as a bass cannot be judged well enough by listening to one person playing it in a YouTube video.

For the house shaking part, don't forget the controls on your amp. I have a Mr Tee, an Elwood L and a headless Frog. All are passive. I mainly play reggae and can assure you that every one of my basses makes the house shake.

I can just underline what BassmanM said - depending on your amp every bass can create an earthquake (ok, maybe not a beatles bass ;-)).

The different pickups are showing different properties, nuances in tone (frequencies) and flexibility but at the end you play a bass guitar.

I have 3 Cazpars (active and passive with Domanski-Pickups and Delano XTender) an active Elwood with XTender and a passive Jake with Delano PC5HE Splitcoil. I play all 5 in my Classic Rockband and with some adjustments of my amp I get basically the sound I need. Yes there are differences (the Xtenders deliver a more transparent tone as compared to the PC5 which has a very warm and punchy sound) but at the end I love all of them...
