NBD: Custom Maruszczyk Elwood 4a
Despite the fact that I didn't want to buy any basses this year (epic fail) I couldn't resist and am now the owner of a used "Hellwood".
Plugged her in and was instantly blown away by the tone.
My first 35" scale, but it's an easy adjustment so far.
Here she is:
Minor battle scars, nothing too bad.
So I did a basic setup and on a new bass I generally check all the screws.
Well, three of the five bridge screws appeared to be stripped.
So I slacked the strings completely and unscrewed one. Turns out the tip has broken off...
So off to the luthier it goes tomorrow...
Not giving her back, too good.
Plugged her in and was instantly blown away by the tone.

Well, took it to a luthier today and he said he thinks the screws didn't break but that someone simply clipped off the end on purpose. He carefully drilled out the hole and put in new screws. He thinks someone worked on the bass at some point.
Well, we went over the whole thing and it'll stay with him for some fretwork and a pro setup plus anything that comes up on a close inspection, but that means 4-6 weeks...
( the usual in my area...)
I have had quite a few basses come to me used with stripped screws. I don't know if that's a usual thing because of vibrations and daily use, or if there are a bunch of people out there who mess with the hardware and bungle it up to that degree, but just last week I noted that all the tuning machines screws were spinning - took them all off, cleaned out the holes, filled them with wood epoxy, re-installed everything. It's an annoying thing to repeatedly deal with. Good luck, that bass looks killer!
Hey fellas. I have a Maruszczyk hard gig bag that came with my bass. It's too tight, actually the bass headstock presses against the top of the bag. I assume this is because I have a 4+1 headstock with the Elwood L model. I'm thinking of selling it as I normally use a different case anyway. I'm curious if anyone else has had the same issues? If anyone is interested in the gig bag / case let me know, I'll sell it to you!

I absolutely love this bass. It has so much punch and growl it's ridiculous. Will definitely be buying a fretted bass from Adrian as well in the near future
It even has a little frog on it too

Beautiful! Love the inlay too.
I took out the passive preamp that came stock in Jake 5p and added a 4-band Audere Classic with double stacked controls. I really wasn't sure what to expect from cavity space in the Jake, as it is hard to find pictures with the pickgard off. I was pleasantly surprised on the amount of room that was in there.....I am still debating on weather or not to add a battery box to the rear, but considering it all fit under the pickgard I am leaning towards leaving it the way it is. I decided to leave the original shielding in place, it looked fine, and there was no unwanted noise before, or after the install....
All said, it was exactly what I was looking for, I was able to tame the high-mid's and treble, and bring through more of the low mid's and clean low's......There wasn't much that was needed in either direction, but it was more than the passive tone control could handle without taking some of the other frequencies down with it......
Sorry there wasn't more pictures, I was pressed for time to get this done in between other obligations.....

Very nice, congrats! Also good to know that the factory shielding is good.
The body of your bass is so beautiful, you could even get a cover for the electronics and leave the pg off...

I thought about that, I was actually looking to see if a Jazz Bass control plate would work in place, but eyeing it up it appears that there wasn't enough curve to cover the P-bass pickgard shape. Great idea though!!
I crossed my official 15 week estimate last week today I believe. Getting antsy! Hit me with that couch picture Adrian!
