As I found out in my email to Adrian, a top wood that I liked from a couple of other bass are not on the website. I requested it and he told me to put it in the "notes".
I like Golden Madrone and have it on one of my other basses (P/J) and wanted a matching J bass. That is on my order from last night. Totals out at about $2500-2600 with all of my other choices.

I think that you just have to ask in the email and put it in the notes as a request.

@road-cat1 When I emailed with Adrian because I put some notes in for some extras, I also asked about import duties and fees to which he responded with he'd put the price at a point where I should be able to avoid them.

I recently received an Overwater from the UK and got hit pretty hard imo with import duty fees of $186 with bill from UPS that I received in the mail 2 weeks later. It was listed as a 2k value with a tariff rate of 8.7%. When I paid UPS over the phone the rep told me anything imported with a value over $800 is taxed.

I wonder also what real savings you can get. The only downsides to me not having to wait for the time difference in email responses from Adrian and possible language differences. (Although Adrian seems quite good with English). The price seemed the same to me from the website to what the US guy was asking. I guess the "potential" for savings is there. If the USA rep gets a dealer price that is discounted, how much of that savings will he pass on to us, the buyer?

When I configured mine I was quoted $1885 on the configurator plus shipping and VAT. When I went through a US dealer I paid $1885 including shipping and VAT. If I actually saved the $300 I was quoted I don't know.

I was amazed at how quickly Adrian responded to all of my questions - at any time of day - despite the time difference.

I hope the US dealer didn't charge you VAT - when I entered my US address on the configurator for payment the Poland VAT disappeared.

that was my question. Of course the sales reps that are authorized to sell for Adrian in the US claim that they can get you a better price. The guy I talked with about a bass that was already in his possession. When I found that I did not like the pickups on that particular bass (ceramic pickups---not my favorite), he suggested that I use the configurator and let him order it for me. I compared the price on the website with the bass he was selling that had almost the identical goodies and specs and the price was the same as buying from him as the website.

I had a dealer give me a quote on my configuration that was about $200 (US) less than the price generated by the configurator. (The configurator price did not include European VAT.) That, along with some flexibility in making payments, convinced me to go through the dealer.

If you have any questions about whether a certain dealer can save you money, have that dealer give you a quote on a specific configuration.

After I added my build to the cart the VAT disappeared for me as well. My final price was a little higher than the cart since I added some extras to my notes and Adrian sent me a final email quote before paying.

This last build I ended up ordering through a dealer and I was able to save close to $300..On the configurator as I was signed in without the VAT/Taxes was $2176 with the $100 shipping included from Adrian (Dollar to Euro exchange). I ended up paying $1900 total shipping included through the dealer...Just my experience.

I just built my same bass I have on order and with shipping and no VAT/Tax this is how it turned out. That is with the new slight June price increases.

1,831.00 Euros =

2,216.7638 US Dollars

I saved a couple hundred dollars going through a dealer. I also liked being able to hash through some ideas with someone who has experience with Maruszczyk instruments and Adrien himself, and whose native language is English. (Nothing against non-native English speakers, it's just easier to deal with detail and nuance. I'm functional, not fluent, in another language, so I know what some of the limitations are.)

My Maruszczyk has the 2 mini switches (serial/single coil/parallel) pickups selectors.

I prefer the tone in single coil mode. I am undecided between the parallel and series mode which one I like better.

I am interested in knowing what mode my fellow TB members prefer if your Maruszczyk basses have that option?

I have two M basses with switchable pickup wiring - 3-way on a Maruszczyk HB/P config and 4-way (inner or outer single coil) on Delano SBCs. Parallel sounds a lot closer to SC on both than to series, for sure. Both those basses are passive, and I like that series mode gives a decent volume/midrange boost.
