The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

I'm not looking for a bright sound. Just a balanced one. What I meant is that on that very video, the sound was too dark to my taste but I'm convinced that it's an editing issue as there are two parts in the video where the bass sounds like that and one is supposedly with tone closed when one is with tone open, yet it sounds the same.

All the other videos of the SBC's I've seen, I like. They seem to have the versatility I'm looking for.

I think you're right that something must've been off. Just looking at this video with only passive electronics, it's obvious that there's plenty of high end detail with the tone open.

I've never actually played a Maruszczyk before, only looked at different options a few times - but then I recently saw the Mopped is available in 32" scale, and I'm now obsessed. I'm genuinely tempted to sell off everything I don't use and order one.

Just need to decide how often I'd use a bridge 'bucker...

Awesome looking build! Just for flexibility purposes I'd get the bridge bucker for flexibility even if you don't use it often. Always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. YMMV

This is what I'm thinking - if I go for a custom build, it'll (hopefully) be my number 1 for a very, very long time. Which is why I'm thinking yeah, add the humbucker with series/parallel/split. I'm looking at lollipop Ultralites, so may as well get the Xtender too. Why not get the carbon rods, just in case? And it'll need a better quality bag...

This is why I'll need to sell off a lot to justify it :D just trying to convince myself I don't need it chambered, too.

That's exactly what I did on my short scale Jake. I use the bucker in series along with the split P most of the time. It sounds huge.

A short scale Jake was the one I had my eye on, until I saw the Mopped. I love that offset, Jazzmaster-y shape but I really have to think about whether I'm going to prefer a 30" in the long term.

How do you like the Jake? Any options you went for you'd have changed with hindsight?

If/when I get another Maruszczyk, it will be a Moped.

My Jake is my #1 bass. I chose the swamp ash body and all the bells and whistles I wanted. It's passive, BTW.

The only thing I might change is to go with a Hipshot bridge. The stock one is serviceable, but I think the Hipshots are easier to adjust.

Thanks, that's a lovely looking bass! Yeah, I was thinking Hipshot bridges look worth it just for the quick string changes.

I was looking at passive as well, V/B/T most likely. Anyone know if the pots they use have a centre detent for the balance knob?

Question for Frog owners
I wonder if someone here can give me some more info on a 4 string Frog neck. I have never played one, but it seems to check all the other boxes for me. 40MM. I love the new Fender Ultra necks (I understand it is compound radius), love my Pedulla Thunderbolt, love my Aerodyne, and am for the most part OK with my Allparts MIJ Jazz neck but i wouldn't call it a perfect fit for me. I like small, but with a little meat behind the first fret (Ibanez feels too small). All comments on this bass are appreciated!

Take a look at the stock instruments. The neck shape is always a "modern C", regardless of model. I don't remember where, but there was also a corresponding statement made by Maruszczyk at some point. The standard fretboard radius is 14" iirc. If you require a specific shape, you can always discuss it with Adrian when placing your order.

I have a headless 4-string Frog and a Mr. Tee and the neck shapes are very similar. The one on the Frog might be a tad flatter, but barely noticeable. To me, the shape is definitely more p than j bass, so the necks certainly have some more "meat". They are nowhere near an Ibanez Soundgear neck.

Neck profile is the one variable I have a little concern with on my Elwood L 5 string build. While I went for 17mm tight string spacing I hope it's more of a standard feeling 4 string P neck and not as chunky a 5 string P neck can feel. If I could take the neck from my Ibanez SR2605 and make it a 32" scale I'd be set forever on a 5 string. That's kind of what I'm hoping for with my Elwood.

@xbud is that Blue Burst on your new Jake 5a?
I was on the fence with Two Tone Blue and then seeing yours has me rethinking it.

Then the LEDs just did me in ;) and I HAD to start playing with the configurator again! But I already have a Frog 5a headless (which I love) but I wish the body was a bit more petite, so looking at the Sputnik as an alternative, as I think it is about 1" smaller top-to-bottom.

Are there any Sputnik owners out there that could please do a quick measurement on the body (top to bottom), pretty please? :)

I also have to email him to find out the cost on the LED option, but here's my "enhanced" visualization with a side-by-side comparison to help with the decision... Sputnik vs. Frog and Blue Burst vs. 2 Tone Blue.

I've received LED info back it adds cost but not too crazy, so I'm doing my final research on LED components now. I've finalized my inlay design, since it is a Frog from Germany, shouldn't it have a Frog holding a beer-stein? Of course it should!!!

I'm still on the fence about Frog vs. Sputnik body, I really like the size/height of the Sputnik body as I think my Frog 5 is a little too tall... but If I go Sputnik it may still get the beer-stein holding frog :woot:

I actually wanted the LEDs on my Frog, but I was scared off when Adrien said it would be very expensive to repair. I got the impression that the LEDs have a bit of a failure rate.

Yeah, it makes sense that if they're integrated into the neck it's difficult to repair. I'm still doing some research on reliability and component options, but I think generally the LEDs should be pretty reliable, however the controller seems it could be a failure point. I decided a while ago that my next build would have them, I regretted not getting them on my Status.

I kinda regret not getting them on my Frog, but I was already stretching my budget when I ordered it. Probably just as well. They'd be cool as anything though.

(I don't doubt the reliability of the LEDs themselves. All of my stage lights are LEDs, and I've never had a problem in the 8 years or so that I've had them.)

I noticed the Sputnik places the pickups closer to the bridge, that would be my preference (I used the Sputnik placement on this image below). Has anyone requested a custom pickup placement on a Frog? is there a surcharge for that?
