The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

On my first Maruszczyk build, I chose a (very) white Frog 4, with Delano Oval Xtenders and a 2 band Delano pre amp. I find the sound a bit modern for my taste. I recently played a Frog 5 that had the Xtenders but had a Noll 3 (or 4?) band pre amp, and loved the tones I could get. So I have decided to swap out the current pre amp. The question is to what. I now know that I prefer 3 or 4 band preamps. And it must fit in the existing holes. What preamp would you choose?

I'm building a headless/fretless for the SBO22 and purchased the Delano's and the Noll pre which should sound amazing. I have the Noll in my Frog and really like it.
  • Delano Xtender 5 HE 5 String Quad Coil Set
  • NOLL TCM 4XM 2-Pickup 5-Knob 4-Band Vol P/P - Bal - Bass - Lo Mid/Hi Mid Stack - Treb (Passive Tone in passive mode) B 2086

I went with 2 single coil Delano JC 5 HE/M2 pickups for my Jazzus with the same preamp - NOLL TCM 4 XM (B2086). The only difference being, that I went for an extra pot for passive tone control.

The sound is extremely versatile and capable of vintage warmth, which is exactly what I was after. I'm playing with flatwounds, but I can see this preamp being suitable for pretty much anything.

Are you sure the other specs of that 5 string are similar to yours? Strings especially. If so, I'd just get the Noll and if you have extra holes… producer switch!

The Noll TCM 3PM can be used with your existing 4 holes with a stacked treb/bass and stacked mids

I placed an order with Adrian in April 2021 and it was shipped to me in the UK in September using FedEx. The tracking showed the bass leaving Germany within 48 hours, but never updated after that and didn't show up at FedEx UK.

After 6 weeks of both Adrian and I constantly chasing FedEx with no response from FedEx or resolution to the problem, Adrian decided to make me a new bass. Adrian told me that this was the 6th bass that FedEx had lost that year.

Out of the blue, after 2 months, FedEx notified me that the bass was due to be delivered and I received another notification that it had been delivered the same day. Nobody was home at the provided delivery time and I was out at work. When I returned home - No bass!

Despite promptly informing FedEx and Adrian of the situation and us both repeatedly contacting FedEx to say that the bass was still missing, nobody from FedEx got back to us. I kept receiving demands from FedEx to pay import charges for the bass and despite repeatedly contacting FedEx to tell them that I hadn't received the bass, I kept receiving import duty demands. Eventually, I received a threatening final demand stating that it was being passed to the collections team and that I would be charged interest and my credit report would be affected.

I contacted FedEx informing them that I was going to report the company for fraud and that I was seeking legal advice. Miraculously, the invoice was then cancelled.

When my replacement bass was about to be shipped, I specifically requested that Adrian use DHL not FedEx. Adrian shipped it using DHL in Germany and instead of DHL delivering the bass, it was passed to Parcelforce in UK who are part of the UK postal service and my bass arrived several days after it was shipped. For some reason, I received no demand for import costs.

FedEx were an absolute nightmare to deal with. The customer service and communication that both Adrian and I experienced was practically non existent and I suspect that Adrian encountered the same problem on numerous occasions after this and was never able to recover the costs of all the missing bass shipments from FedEx.

There is no way that a business can succeed or survive under these circumstances and it only makes sense for Adrian to use a different shipping company.

I have always found DHL to be extremely reliable with excellent customer service and communication. I believe that the issues that you have experienced are down to USPS, which I have also had issues with in the past - standard USPS shipping from US to UK takes an average of 3 to 4 weeks (which is unbelievable in this day and age) and I have found USPS tracking to be extremely unreliable.

In future, I recommend that you request Adrian ship using DHL to DHL in the receiving country - maybe he is using DHL to the resident's postal service in order to keep shipping costs down. My recommendation is a better option if this is proving to be unreliable for US shipments.
After reading these threads re: FedEx, I reached out to Randy @ Bass Spotlight regarding the bass I have on order (expected in September). For US deliveries he recommended UPS, stating they've had the fewest issues and the best tracking.

So when u go through a dealer is the bass shipped to the dealer first then to you? Great looking basses on the last few pages
The dealer can decide to have it sent to you or can have the bass shipped to the dealer first.

That's how it worked with me. My bass was sent to the dealer. He had it long enough to check it out and take pictures of it, then he forwarded it on to me. I was happy with that arrangement.

Congrats, looks absolutely lovely ! :) Btw what's the radius ? My shorty is to arrive in the next two weeks (hopefully) and I selected a 12''.

I chose the 12" radius for this build and I like the feel so far. My builds last year all had 14" radius which was fine also but i think I like the 12" radius better

And also : Adrian told me that they "received the pickups on June 21, that they were in the workshop", how much time should I expect from the moment they received the pu to the moment the bass is signed sealed delivered ?

A couple of us are in the same boat as we were waiting for some Nordstrand pickups to come in for a long while. As I understand it the Nordstrand pickups were received at the end of May, beginning of June and are either finished or in final stages. Adrian went to Poland and is suppose to bring back a shipment of finished Basses with him. Hopefully all of our outstanding orders that were waiting on pickups come back with him.

And question for Maru owners : does anyone of you own a 4 string with a 12" radius ? How do you like it ?

I ordered my bass with 12" radius and carbon rods but I'm not sure if it even has the carbon rods or a 12" radius (I think it's 14"). I ordered my bass before the configurator was a thing, and went through a dealer. I made some errors—I ordered with Haussels and Delano preamp—later replaced with Nordstrands and East preamp (I wanted that but was trying to save money…note to self get what you want). At any rate not sure what I have but I like the bass as it is now.

The radius can be measured, if you want to be sure.... But what makes you think the carbon rods could be missing?
