The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

FYI to everyone waiting on an Order from Adrian....Adrian has decided to stop using FedEx to ship the Basses. He is now using DHL that will get handed off to USPS here in the states.....I now have been waiting over 2 weeks since my Bass shipped out and I have still not received it yet. USPS has had my Bass in their possession since last Saturday 6/25 and has already gone through customs in Los Angeles then the tracking stops. I only live in Las Vegas about 4-5 hours away from Los Angeles Calif. DHL should not be handing off packages to USPS IMO...I had no issues getting my last 4 Maru basses from FedEx last year and some other people have recently got their Basses from FedEx with no issues here in the states...Not sure why Adrian decided to switch but he sure did not do his homework about DHL and their terrible shipping practices...Over 3 weeks since getting my couch pic and still no bass....Rant over!

I asked about doing a 3-piece Wenge neck and he complained. Please ask and see if you get a more positive response.

Heard back from Adrian, he said they'll do a 3 piece wenge neck on the Elwood L but only as a 3-piece laminate with carbon rods installed. Similar to the reply you received, he said it's not a good neck wood but didn't expound on why he thinks that. The insistence on the rods leads me to believe he thinks there are stability issues but I don't think I've ever heard of people having issues with wenge necks. I have a few guitars (not bass) with wenge necks and they've been super stable.

DHL seems to be much more common in Europe and the Middle East for whatever reason. Contrary to popular belief DHL does still deliver directly to US addresses but the service is rarely used. I had an oud shipped from Greece and DHL brought it to my door. Maybe that's something Adrian could look into. The shipping was also freakishly fast, something like three days from Greece to KY. The luthier mentioned he marks instruments as a 'repair' which gets them through Customs quicker... I was skeptical about that but can't argue with the shipping time he quoted.

Oh no... A rare dingwall that was sent out for a custom paint job disappeared when it hit LA.

I remember having the email discussion with Adrian in the past regarding WHO he would use for shipping. At that time FEDEX lost more than 1 bass stating that the label came off. Ultimately, Adrian DID use FEDEX for my delivery to the Phoenix area and it only took a few days. He told me that he tape the label onto the box 3 times to make sure. I have NO faith in USPS. I purchased a Bacchus bass from BassJapandirect. (Danny) who used EMS which then hands off to USPS. It was the ultimate nightmare for me as I watched the tracking get to inbound customs at LAX. At that point USPS was claiming that it was still in customs. I call the LAX inbound customs office 3 times over the course of 2 weeks and they stated that they do NOT hold anything coming from JAPAN and that USPS has lost it, not customs. USPS was NO help at all and still pointed the finger at customs. Almost 2 months later, the bass arrived with no tracking info on the website to indicate that it was on a truck for delivery, etc. I certainly hope that Adrian will make sure that USPS is not involved with DHL. I have received deliveries from DHL in the Phoenix area, so I hope that DHL will complete the delivery and not hand off to USPS.

Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with this, I've had multiple Wenge next on Warwicks and have all been fine. Old ones too.

I just placed an order yesterday with Randy from Bass Spotlight after seeing him recommended in this thread. He was awesome to work with and saved me quite a bit of money. He gave me the options for delivery of DHL, DHL Express, or UPS Express. Since I live in a very rural area, I went with UPS.
That is one of the advantages of working with a dealer IME. If there are any shipping issues between Germany and the dealer, that's inconvenient for the musicians who's waiting for their instruments, but it's a problem that doesn't need their involvement to get corrected. Local shipping between the dealer and the musician tends to be easier to track and less problematic, and doesn't involve things like customs.

Has anyone else on here decided to have a Jazzus built? This is one of my favorite basses. It has Delano Times Square pickups and a Darkglass pre amp. Plays like a dream.

Yes! Delano Jazzbars, no pre-amp, multiscale, mahogany body, quilted ash top, birdseye, one-piece neck (2 pieces with dove-tailed headstock), wenge board

Your pics show what appears to be two basses—one with Nordstrands and MOP blocks, the other with Delano TS and dot inlays.
You are correct. The first one with the Nordstrands and the blocks was traded for a Sadowsky NYC Jazz. I immediately had the second one with the dots and the Delano Times Square built.

So you like the Delanos better than the Nordstrands?
Honestly, I like them both. No real preference. I just wanted to try the Times Squares. I also have a Frog 5 with Nordstrand Big Singles that I like. All those basses have Darkglass pre amps. We are lucky to have so many good choices.

I placed an order with Adrian in April 2021 and it was shipped to me in the UK in September using FedEx. The tracking showed the bass leaving Germany within 48 hours, but never updated after that and didn't show up at FedEx UK.

After 6 weeks of both Adrian and I constantly chasing FedEx with no response from FedEx or resolution to the problem, Adrian decided to make me a new bass. Adrian told me that this was the 6th bass that FedEx had lost that year.

Out of the blue, after 2 months, FedEx notified me that the bass was due to be delivered and I received another notification that it had been delivered the same day. Nobody was home at the provided delivery time and I was out at work. When I returned home - No bass!

Despite promptly informing FedEx and Adrian of the situation and us both repeatedly contacting FedEx to say that the bass was still missing, nobody from FedEx got back to us. I kept receiving demands from FedEx to pay import charges for the bass and despite repeatedly contacting FedEx to tell them that I hadn't received the bass, I kept receiving import duty demands. Eventually, I received a threatening final demand stating that it was being passed to the collections team and that I would be charged interest and my credit report would be affected.

I contacted FedEx informing them that I was going to report the company for fraud and that I was seeking legal advice. Miraculously, the invoice was then cancelled.

When my replacement bass was about to be shipped, I specifically requested that Adrian use DHL not FedEx. Adrian shipped it using DHL in Germany and instead of DHL delivering the bass, it was passed to Parcelforce in UK who are part of the UK postal service and my bass arrived several days after it was shipped. For some reason, I received no demand for import costs.

FedEx were an absolute nightmare to deal with. The customer service and communication that both Adrian and I experienced was practically non existent and I suspect that Adrian encountered the same problem on numerous occasions after this and was never able to recover the costs of all the missing bass shipments from FedEx.

There is no way that a business can succeed or survive under these circumstances and it only makes sense for Adrian to use a different shipping company.

I have always found DHL to be extremely reliable with excellent customer service and communication. I believe that the issues that you have experienced are down to USPS, which I have also had issues with in the past - standard USPS shipping from US to UK takes an average of 3 to 4 weeks (which is unbelievable in this day and age) and I have found USPS tracking to be extremely unreliable.

In future, I recommend that you request Adrian ship using DHL to DHL in the receiving country - maybe he is using DHL to the resident's postal service in order to keep shipping costs down. My recommendation is a better option if this is proving to be unreliable for US shipments.

I too have had a few bad experiences with FedEx. Following a slightly interesting experience with an amp I ordered from Sweetwater, I contacted my sales engineer and asked them to never ever send me anything with FedEx ever again. They noted that in my file, and moving forward they will use another shipping service.

It's nice to know that's an option.
