Greetings Maruszczyk afficionados. I found the configurator a few weeks ago and started fashioning my takes on an short scale Elwood L. Fast forward to today where upon I have read all of the posts in this forum from 2018 through the present and have changed my prefereces a number of times. I've pretty well landed on the idea of a 30" Cazpar, with the pic below being my most consistent preference...at least for the moment.

I'm already a short scale player and I'm pretty sure this bass is in my wheelhouse. Passive electronics but I have no idea what pickups I might like. I'm a classic rock, indy, blues, roots music fan. I want a nice round P-type bottom and some harmonic richness without the zingyness and tightness of more modern tone and I like the EBMM growl. I play on tape wounds now and will likely continue unless I can't get the tone I want from tapes on this bass. Any suggestions for pups in the split/humbucker camp as shown in the pic would be welcome.

The recent posts relating to supply chain and shipping issues are cause for trepidation on my part but I'm pretty keen on a custom build and am willing to initiate an order soon, likely through Bass Spotlight. I will consult with Randy with some questions and handle my order with his guidance. Any comments, questions, and suggestons welcome!

If it was me ordering pickups for myself on that bass, I'd get the Delano PC4 HE/M2 + JC4 HE/M2. I would do that because all other things being equal, I prefer not to have open pole pieces. The HE/M2 pickups are fully enclosed. That means no accidental noise from touching the pole pieces either with my fingers or the strings (or a pick, or whatever).

That, and the pair of JC4 HE/M2 pickups on my Frog sound phenomenal.

By the way, you might want to consider doing something I did. Next time you're checking out the configurator, take a look at the Joker. Notice the extra finger room contours. They do that on both the upper and lower bouts on the Joker. I asked for that same extra finger room on my bass, just on the lower bout though. They did it for me, and included it at no extra charge. (I also asked for a stainless steel zero fret, but I can't remember if I paid extra for that. I don't think I did.)

Thanks for this suggestion. I remember reading about these pups in other posts.

I see what you mean about the extra finger room contours. I also like the idea of a stainless zero fret. Good ideas.

Has anyone got a pic of a Cazpar with either a Joker or Frog headstock? I'd like to see how this model looks with either of those.

Thanks much for the video. I totally understand the logic associated with placing the humbucker up next to the P split pup. So many different possibilities with the series/parallel/single selection plus a blend pot. I think I'm going to head the same direction.

One thing I'm also doing that's a little different is no blend pot, just a three way switch, Tele style. Nobody can tell from the stage anyway, so I just want to be able to dial in a couple of tones and hit it.

I loved the Bass just not the tone I was getting out of it for me and the fretboard radius was a bit to flat for my liking. I ended up selling it and I was able to pay for this new Cazpar build that should be coming really soon after a 6+ month wait. I spent a lot of time figuring out which options I would choose and after a while of looking at the original Cazpar headstock, it grew on me so I ended up ordering my new Cazpar with it.
